Serpents of Old - Rewald and Dinner

How he and Rewald met (and the origin of the name):
Rewald met the Lacor several weeks after the death of his father. Rewald caught the Lacor in his makeshift snare and planned to kill it for dinner. As he was preparing for the necessary tools for the slaughter, he kept on calling the Lacor ‘dinner.’ But when the time came for Rewald to kill the Lacor, he couldn’t bring himself to do it to the poor Lacor, because it kept on gazing at him with a betrayed look. With the utmost reluctance, he set the Lacor free, but he had to scare it away in order for it to go away for good. It did go away, but not for good. The Lacor returned with several newly-killed Lickins stuffed in its snout. That night, Rewald met his companion for the next years to come. He did think up of other names for the Lacor, but it won’t answer to any of them, so Rewald resorted to calling him ‘Dinner’ for good.

Current relationship with Rewald:
Dinner is Rewald’s partner in hunting Lickins in the forest, both for himself and for hunters who, for one reason or another, couldn’t catch a single one for themselves. Rewald makes the snares, and Dinner catches those that manage to escape. Also, it’s an understatement to call the two ‘friends.’ Dinner is more like a conscience for Rewald than a friend. The very few serpents who made contact with Rewald might have partially convinced him to go to the school where Hizruk goes, but it was Dinner who put the last nail on the coffin.

Here was the actual conversation that transpired between them after the other serpents leave:

Dinner: *nudges Rewald on the side of his head with his snout*

Rewald: Dinner, don’t look at me like that. You know I really couldn’t care less about that ‘mandatory’ thing they said.

Dinner: *grunts softly and looks at Rewald straight in the eyes*

Rewald: Oh, come on! Don’t tell me you want me to go to that school! If I ever set foot on that place, I might end up acting like my old man.

Dinner: *whines and nods his head vigorously and starts nudging him on the chest, around the part where his heart is located*

Rewald: Okay, maybe you’re right. Maybe I won’t act like that old fart if I enter. But I still have to get new clothes or the others will treat me like a beggar. I don’t have the money to –

Dinner: *grabs the satchel of money given by the serpents who just left as payment for the Lickins from Rewald’s belt and holds it right in front of Rewald’s face*

Rewald: Hrgh! Fine, you win again, you big brute. *takes the satchel from Dinner* I am so gonna regret this, like, seriously.

Extra info about Dinner:
- At nighttime, Rewald always has to sing a lullaby (which is actually dedicated to his mother that he never met) for Dinner to fall asleep soundly.

Extra info about Rewald:
- In his cave, the name ‘Josefin’ is carved on the part where Rewald and his Lacor sleep. This was the only thing he knew about his mother: her name.

11/15/2015 Update: I would have wanted to cross out that dialogue above since it's not applicable to what Serpy has planned for Rewald in the comic, but it's just too precious. I'll think up of something else some other time. For now, please enjoy this little exchange between the two.
