Monthly Artist Feature with :iconpoporetto:

Each month we would like to feature one of the many gifted Christian artists in christians.  Our artist of the month is Poporetto.  Do you love comics? This artist blends adorable characters, humor, and solid Biblical truth in his masterful illustrations.

BEFORE WE START, WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS INTERVIEW! IT IS A GREAT PLEASURE. FIRST WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK, HOW DID YOU GET STARTED AS AN ARTIST AND WHY DID YOU COME TO CARTOONS AND COMICS?

The pleasure is mine! I’m really glad that I can share and be a part of this awesome group!
I never formally start as an artist, but I guess drawing has been a central part of my life, growing up my parents bought me a lot of comics and manga, and I read them a lot, I really enjoy reading stories from comics. And that’s why I’d like to do the same, sharing stories through drawings, cartoons and comics.

WHEN DID YOU BECOME A CHRISTIAN? HOW DID IT HAPPEN?

I have been introduced to Jesus Christ since I was really small, my parents are Buddhist, but God has been gracious that they let me to go to sunday school, church, and bible study. When I went to university I started reading bible properly, joining bible study and finally really understood the real sweetness of Jesus’ grace through His death and resurrection. :)

HOW DID YOU DEVELOP THE MAIN CHARACTERS WE SEE IN YOUR COMICS?

I enjoy telling people stories! Especially a funny one or one that might draw a smile in their face!!! And a lot of silliness and irony comes from my own life, so I draw the characters based on myself and people around me.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL WORKFLOW AND CREATIVE PROCESS.

Most of the time, I always write the text first and then I would sketch my drawing. The next step is drawing the outline, fill in the color. And lastly adding shadows.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A CHRISTIAN ARTIST AND WHAT IS THE WORST?

The best thing is that you can share the gospel of Jesus Christ through your work, you can share how Jesus’ forgiveness has changed your life, and tell people the stories through comics. It reach more people, and by grace who knows anyone might be saved or finding it as an encouragement.

Hmm the worst thing is… hmmmmm… I don’t know if there is any, but maybe if someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus is rejecting Jesus and ridiculing Him, there is nothing that i can do other than praying for that person. :(

IN CLOSING, PLEASE TELL US 3 TIPS THAT ARE CRUCIAL FOR A CHRISTIAN ARTIST.

Alright!
1. Don’t be ashamed of the Cross, as the bible say, it’s foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Keep sharing it, and pray for those who disliking it.
2. Include the message of Jesus in your art! Art is telling story, it’s a form of passing on message, and there is no better message than God’s message of grace.
3. Don’t be afraid, you’re not alone (◕‿◕) there are other Christians out there who shares the same faith!
