Description
My boyfriend is working on a book currently that he hopes to get published, called Daughter of the Sun. He asked me to make a map for him based on an initial sketch of his continent, so this is the product of about 15 hours of work, off and on, for the past day. And I have a crick in my neck to prove it.
I'm actually rather proud of this. It's the first full-fledged map I've ever done and I think it came out really well. It's a mixture of mediums, because I wanted to do it in Gimp so I could work with layers, textures, text, whatever, but it ended up being necessary to do a lot of the landmark work by graphite. While I have a tablet, it just doesn't give me enough freedom to work with since I'm not used to it, so all the mountains, lakes, and rivers are hand sketched and then uploaded. I really like how the mountains turned out, achieving that 3D affect. I got the idea off a tutorial (see further down).
I had a lot of fun with this. I'm glad I really like it, and I'm glad that my boyfriend likes it and wants to use it. It'd be a lot of fun to do more maps like this in the future, maybe for my own stuff. We'll just have to see.
