Hideshi is just a quite boy who doesn’t voice his opinions on anything but generally keeps them to himself, as he prefers watching rather than joining. Undoubtedly, seeing what comes of the show never ceases to amuse the nutcracker. Yet, to notice this unpleasant gusto requires some close attention, since the grey bird knows how to conceal his true self -- mostly by covering what he thinks with what he wants. That is to say, his actions aren’t frequently influenced by emotions, but by intentions - which makes him an unpredictable and confusing bird at times.   

On a side note, he likes to mess around with his feelings and actions, as he takes it as part of his “Discovery game”. This game serves for his habit and interest in observing and studying others. Similar to collecting nuts, he enjoys “collecting” behaviors, attitudes and emotional reactions of others to find out the real them. It’s like a social experiment to him, and a chance to discover some “hidden gems” – a term he uses to call someone he holds in high respect.

This masking behavior is a result of nothing, but simply because he loves the thrill and fun associated with hiding behind a mask. Yup you nailed it. He’s that kind of bird who goes his own way and chases joy -- or to put it differently: he’s by nature a free spirit. A liberal has his own little world ruled by his own discretion. As liberty is the thing he values most, he – by the same token – wishes nothing more than his companions fly high and freely. The nutcracker may be mischievous, but also has his loyal side and tends to stick with you through thick and thin once you’ve earned his trust.

But please be careful. Forming a close bond with him may be a one-way ticket to the birdcage. Surely, he doesn’t interfere in your business, as he also has a need for autonomy. He just stands back and lets you have all of your personal space, but to get rid of him is nearly impossible. And like the way he treats his precious nuts, he treasures you up for the rest of his life. In short, he doesn’t fence you in, but haunts you deliberately instead. He knows how to be in your sight – and as the same time – to keep an eye on you. He doesn’t like to share, neither, and does take action to bring back what’s his when he feels it’s necessary.

In order to prepare their children for the bright future, two love birds had migrated south from their mountain village. They quickly adapted to the big city’s rhythm and eventually found stable jobs. They were both in their mid-30s when they had their first twins, Hideshi and Hideko.

Born and raised in Japan, Hideshi and his sister had an uneventful childhood. Their father always taught them that “the early bird catches the worm”, as he wanted them to grow up to be hardworking and independence birds who jump on opportunity when it strikes. Even though they prefer nuts to worms, the twins still took their father at his word and worked well to meet his expectations. They knew they would grow tired of this anytime soon, but still, it was lovely to see their parents smiled and felt proud, especially when the reason was them.

Their parents’ marriage broke up when the twins reached 12. That year, the father moved out to a different location in the same city, and eventually got engaged to another woman who has two sons, aged 9 and 3, from a previous marriage. Not long after that, Hideshi came to live with his father and his new family. He was still a nice, quick-witted kid and could be a little offbeat, fairly unpredictable sometimes -- yet above all, he was still a son whom his father was most proud of. Furthermore, Hideshi also had three more birds to observe for the sake of entertainment. #YOLO, betches     

During his final year at middle school, Hideshi told his father and stepmother about his intention to enroll in St.Pigeonations Institute and asked for their permission. They were caught off guard but more than happy to accept his request. With no doubt.
