Description

Teen Titans Redesigned, Part 4 of 7.

Name: Princess Koriand’r of Tamaran

Age: 20

Species: Tamaranean

Sexual Orientation: Pansexual

Abilities: Flight, superhuman strength and durability, solar energy absorption and projection.

Personality: Known for her fiery temper and feisty attitude, Koriand’r is a rebellious soul who leads with her emotions. She is aggressive, impulsive and finds great pleasure in smashing things. However, she is equally as passionate and follows her heart quite frequently. She is also incredibly intelligent and is a natural-born leader.

Notable Family: King Myand’r (father), Queen Luand’r (mother), Komand’r (Blackfire, sister), Ryand’r (brother)

Friends/relationships: Donna Troy (Troia, best friend), Rachel Roth (Raven, friend)

History: As the middle child of the Tamaranean royal family, Princess Koriand’r was never expected to become heir to the throne. However, when her older sister Komand’r failed to develop the abilities necessary to become ruler of the planet, her parents’ shifted their focus towards the spare.

They ultimately decided to send Koriand’r off to train on Okaara, while Komand’r sat at home stewing in her jealousies towards her sister.

When a war broke out between the Psions and the Tamaraneans, Komand’r seized the chance to be rid of her sister forever. She struck a deal with the Psions and captured Koriand’r, thus enslaving her for several years.

During this time, Koriand’r was tortured and abused mercilessly. This only served to fuel her anger. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, Koriand’r escaped her captivity and fled to Earth.

It was here where she met the superheroes known as Troia, Arsenal and Nightwing. She joined their ranks and became a member of the Teen Titans.

As with some of the other characters in my head canon, I didn't want to mess around too much with Starfire. I love the origin Wolfman and Perez gave her, so I stayed faithful to that in spirit. The same could be said for her personality. As a character, she represents a liberated individual who isn't poisoned by the prudish and restrictive "ideals" that humans have established. She guides herself truthfully and lives by a code of raw emotion, rather than by law or scripture. In this way she contrasts against others like Nightwing, who cling to the laws of man. This different perspective makes her an ideal candidate to be one of the team's co-leaders alongside Troia. She was being trained to rule an entire planet after all.

For those of you who were following my previous Women of the DC Universe redesign series, you'll remember that Starfire was among the ten women selected by you all to be redesigned. I was pretty pleased with the piece that I drew of her and you all showed it love too. Since I liked some of the parts of that look, I decided to combine it with some new elements. I kept the two-piece aspect, but opened it up a little more. I changed the shape of the cut-out on her chest and streamlined the boots. You'll also notice that I chopped off a lot of her hair. It's actually fairly similar to what her hair looked like in the cartoon, but I was actually inspired by Lili Rochefort from the Tekken franchise in regards to the hair. Beyond that, I really wanted Starfire to have this super curvaceous look about her. This was largely to contrast Raven, who I drew much more frail and flat-chested. In a way, she's almost Pre-Raphealite.

I hope you all like the look! Please feel free to drop a comment below letting me know what you think.
