Description

Stories are still told of how the tragedies fell on Hesperia, following short of the few time of freedom after the desintegration of the Pelasgean Telchine Empire:

Tradition has it that all this mess began with a Themisian Priestess missing her 'husband' (that term is pretty much modern in this context). In the way to find him, she left her daughter and set out with her handmaiden in means to find him on the other edge of the ocean. Happened to be that the daughter, missing her mother, sought after the same, and was helped by Proteans. That eventually led the Proteans into Pelasgean Society. Out of this 'help', however, she developed bonds with them and bore spawns. But tradition is told by patriarchs.

The husband was Oceanos, the Mother of the Melissai was Despoina-Phoibe, her daughter Potnia-Kore was lured by shape-shifting Proteus and the handmaiden was no one but Hekate. Proteus was actually another shape of the same Oceanos, as Hydros itself. The Maiden helped the tricked family into reaching a cave beyond the realm of the Proteans. There, as led by Twelve Relics, they shared to their own likes the power structure of the planet.

Soon, Moon, Sun and Astral bodies began to shift, the zodiacal signs conflicted with day-time sky and night came to be in the all-evening lands of Hesperia. The nymphs who escaped to the oceans drowned and were reborn as the Lampades, to forever follow the handmaiden, virgin which still hold the power of the torches (be it hekatean or vestan) and stole the proeminence of the daughter.
The lineage of the daughter would find herself other handmaidens, witches of the astral bodies, a series of Pasiphaes, Circes and Aeetes' daughters, Medeas. From Pasiphae, star-based Minotaurs, through Asterion, would enforce the Pelasgeans to cruelties such as Tredian Phalaris' and slavery. Through Medea, history would resist, but Triton 'Heroes' from generations after would be put to test. From Circe, Phaunus would be born once again by Hydros in disguise, and the Satyr caste would spread errance and libertine behaviour. The Melissai family would find a pelasgean Order to now outcast Phoibean Mother. From it, the religious leaders would trust in the few reminiscent Proteans to lead themselves to 'transformation' (similarly in the manner as evolution can be understood in modern sense). They needed to resist a shifting world which lacked the sustenance of the twelve relics. Once separated, they never were joined again.

Tradition tells again that Daughter grow weary of the Mother and the Maiden was on her own right refusing to serve. That opened breach to Kings and patriarchs into mining the actions of the religious order, and soon it all became rather clerical. And then, familiar structures were born. When naturally challenged, they were forcefully adopted. But all went wrong when Lycaon and the werewolves (similar to Akhs except having no affinities to Xnobius and hidden elements) caused unprecedent carnage among the four kingdoms of Pelasgea.

Since the great parting ('Eurynome'), Hesperia would shift to Pelasgea, and the four cardinal points would have to sustain the Titanic Pillars (Koios, Hyperion, Krios and Iapetus) through an inner limitation, a consuming force that only Hydros could resist - the Deadly Streams. But the Mother, the Daughter and the Maiden all knew the figure of the Water God, they understood his changing nature and trickster skills. They were sure he would try to gather them and their possessions through covert means, such as through the discovery of the hidden elements.
But there was a truce, and a flood destroyed Pelasgea. It became a myth. Those who survived were Deucalion, Pyrrha and those which sought guidance of the Proteans. They would evolve to firmly-legged Tritons and could finally join underwater and surface cities, driving back yet another menace too much greater than Minotaurs, Satyrs or Werewolves. The three women became legends, parts of the subconscious, to be awaken and rise anew in younger generations. Themisian Order would contact interplanetary assistance and Hermes Trismegistos would help the Proteus into becoming Tritons. The Olympians would be born and, once again, Poseidon would find, through Demeter, the lost lineage of those which dared to part the unity of the planet.

Thus was conceived the Three Laws, through Themis, Moira and Nemesis. That concept predated Ma'at's influence on the Per Aa counsellors and also the wars of Oracles and Drakainas. And Proteus, with the earth-shaking Trident, would be sure to keep an eye on the Kerikeyion, a relic inherited by the Melissai and given to Trismegistus to help rebuild the world from ruin.

Instructively, the son of Poseidon and Demeter, despite its' parents being in equine shape and Olympian nature at time, manifested, in spirit, the essence of the first time they joined, in the beginning of the myth: unparallel and precedent to all the exchange of the power between the triples, as a horse befitting of knowledge, physical prowess and ability to traverse sky, sea and land alike: as Arion the speaking, un-tamed horse.

The Twelve relics, powerful gifts Hydros crafted to keep Hesperia an all-evening, cyclical never-lasting experience, were based on the characteristics of his own element, water. Based on its capability of producing electrical energy (Sun Eye of Horus), on its levels of acidity (Stygian Flame), on how it can reflect (Mirror of Delphi) or distort (Mirror of Amaterasu) image, on what speed does it flow (Moon Eye of Horus), on what temperatures it vaporizes (Hestian Flame), the length and time its bubbles last (the "Lahamu" Snake) and how it deflects beam of light into a rainbow (the "Lahmu" snake), the relics were split as in the image above. The Moon, Sun and Evening Star (main astral body of the planet) of Hesperia were used as their own crests, and as such, the total of eleven relics were just matched because of the Trident Hydros-Oceanus-Proteus himself held.

The Daughter holds the two Jewels (Sun and Moon Eyes of Horus). Associated with the Moon, she's the progenitress of the Satyroi. Among the ones who impersonated her, there were Persephone inheritor of the Jewels, Circe the progenitress of Phaunus (a distinct satyr kind in Tredius) and Artemis the huntress. Eventually the Circe incarnation took place of the main entity and took place of the missing Persephone, who used to be its chosen. Having suppressed such entity, her other retinues would disband the charge. Her power over the night was used in favor of the Amazon Tritonesses, Artemisian troops and other religious off-shoots.

The Mother holds the Mirror (of Delphi - the oracular "Know Thyself...") and the Flame (of Hestia - the sacred flame of all the religion corpus, the spirit of hearth and sustenance of lives, home and outdoor alike). Asociated with the Sun, she's the progenitress of the Werewolves. Among the ones who impersonated her, there has always been maternal figures such as the bright Phoibe, who also had a great role in raising the natural-born Olympian Twins (Apollo and Artemis). Her incarnations' long-lasting times were met with a series of maidens (no longer related to the Maiden Entity) devoted to the keeping of her cults, traditions, festivities and life, across many names, epithets, to keep a bit of anonimity. Her power over the day inspired all religious orders that followed, only to keep intact the mysteries that without doubt should happen in night.

The Maiden was as well gifted with a Flame (Stygian One - to make the Lampades follow her) and with a Mirror (the Amaterasu one). Associated with the Evening Star, she's the progenitress of the Minotaur. Those who impersonate her commonly forget their past lives and act in triples themselves, or show some kind of socially-misunderstood madness. They have been gathering intel on cults all across Tredius, from the Seidr practicioners to the Followers of Isis, drawing as well from influences way more arcane such as the Cihuateteoh and Tzizimimeh. Not rarely, she borrows apprentices from the latter two figures, in secrecy (as ends up with Artemis, since she's no longer responded by the Daughter). Her power over the evening was an arcane one, facilitated by usage of Orichalcum, Daimobia, and could likely release shards of Chaotic thoughts upon others. While the Mother wants back her daughter in order to get revenge on the father, she only means both daughter and mother to get in their battle so she gets the true power residing on the hands of the mother's former, divorced husband.

As the relics passed on different hands after the incident, their incredible power was never meant to be joint again and they would buy time with other ways to strengthen their power-bases. Two relics, however, were fused naturally into the fabled Kerikeyion. It was kept mysterioulsy at the Phoibean castle, since after Trismegistus re-built the destroyed planet in assistance with Astraios and his Chronpuchian. They made the 1st Satyr diaspora as a response. After that, it was entrusted to Apollo, who had no use for the mysterious antiquity. He exchanged with a new-born Hermes (no other than an Olympian Trismegistos) for the lyre. This was instrumental in he inflicting direct power on the Muses, whose songs shadowed the original trinity and played out as voice of Zeus' dominion, marking a new age and new manners to control power. But once there were such deep foundations, powers such as that of the Herald's staff never were kept aside. For what or for who Trismegistus would use it would be kept as a mystery...

This is a fragment of Homeric Hymn to Demeter on the background of a drawing I did on my sketchbook. As the "triple" female group is both a recurrent theme in Greek Mythology, even becoming a cheap jargoned "meta-language" to """new""" religions, this is the personal take I've had on them on my own story: That of an ancient family structure (matriarchate) which on its own confusion, split their powers and on their beliefs of individuality and ipseity, would rather let the world be ran through other forces. Their "exit" from the Pelasgean power play, however, was no shadowing event - but costed the entire ilusory balance of nature itself.
