Iceman Trailer
Today I wanted to share with you this Trailer for an upcoming German/Austrian/Italian movie about Ötzi the Iceman.
The movie is going to be a revenge-Thriller where the main character Kelab (Ötzi) sets out to find the murderes of his family but ends up being the hunted one instead.
The movie was shot on location in South Tyrol and stars Jürgen Vogel. Now what is interesting is that the dialouge of the movie will be entirely in extinct Rhaetian - a reconstructed ancient alpine language.
What do you think? I for one can't wait to see this movie!
Maria Theresias 300th Birthday
Today is the 300th birthday of Maria Theresa, one of the most famous Habsburg rulers and the only female one at that. While she is often referred to as "Empress of Austria" in pop culture this is actually incorrect, since the title "emperor of Austria" did not exist before 1804. Rather Maria Theresa was Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia and bore the title of roman Empress when her husband Franz Stefan was crowned Emperor in 1745.
At first her rule was less than secure. Her father - Emperor Karl VI - had decreed in 1713 that in case he should die without a male heir all of his territories should be handed over to his daughte
Maximilian
Today I finally managed to watch the third part of the new Austrian TV movie about the young emperor Maximilian I.
First of all I must stress that I can’t really comment on the historical aspect of the movie since I am not an expert on the late middle ages – but what I heard from friends who do know the history it was not too bad! So generally I was pleasantly surprised, especially the characters were actually very interesting and compelling, especially Maria of Burgundy and her stepmother. Tobias Moretti does a good job as Friedrich III too. The movie also has a great look, not the usual Hollywood fantasy/medieval style, which w
Death of Emperor Franz Joseph
Habe die Ehre my Friends!
Today is the 100th anniversary of the death of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria.
He followed his uncle Emperor Ferdinand in 1848 and reigned for 68 years (thereby beating Queen Victory by 4 years).
On November 21th 1916 he died at age 86.
