Iwaizumi tried not to stare at the girl sitting closer to the front of the classroom, but whenever he tried to concentrate on the history textbook on his desk, he found his gaze gravitating back to her.

He swore that there were a couple of times when she turned to glance at him, but whenever their eyes met, she would shyly look away, a soft pink covering her cheeks.

[H/c] hair framed her face perfectly, and she kept shifting in her seat, obviously bored from the lesson since he saw her dozing off a couple of times. He'd smile at the way she would hit her own cheeks in attempt to wake herself up, and when she had a dreamy expression on her face, he couldn't help but wonder if there was even a slightest chance that she was thinking about him.

It's a pity that the only class they shared was Japanese History. Because there were always lessons after that, he never gotten a chance to talk to her since she sat so far away from him.

Class ended early one day, and when the students started to pour out of the classroom, he gathered his stuff and walked outside, only to see Oikawa waiting outside for her, and a smile reaching her lips when she walked up to him. Iwaizumi's heart dropped when he saw her blush at something Oikawa said, and not wanting to see anymore, he turned around and walked away.

He didn't know why he was so upset over this.

It wasn't like it was the first time someone he found cute ended up flocking to Oikawa. But why was he so angry at the thought of [Name] liking his best friend? Iwaizumi sighed heavily as he lay on his bed, staring at the words on his wrist.

Happy Birthday Hajime-kun!

Tomorrow could be the day he found his soulmate. On his birthday every year, he would be on the alert, keeping an eye out for people's reactions when they wished him happy birthday, trying to sieve out his soulmate from the massive amounts of girls that Oikawa would shove his way.

As he closed his eyes though, [Name]'s face appeared behind his lids, and when he slept that night, he dreamt of spiking volleyballs at Oikawa's head. Repeatedly.

"Happy Birthday, Iwa-chan! Are you excited to find your soulmate today?"

"You're too loud, Trashykawa..." Iwaizumi groaned as he started to walk to school, Oikawa falling into step next to him.

School passed by in a blur. People wishing him well, a couple of gifts here and there, but no one had used 'Hajime-kun' when greeting him yet, and as the day passed by, his hopes started to fall.

Perhaps he would have to wait for another year.

As the second last class of the day ended, Iwaizumi closed his Japanese History textbook and shoved it into his bag, taking his time to pack up his things. He paid no heed to the students who were streaming out of the class since he wasn't familiar with the classmates in his elective class.

So when someone stopped to stand in front of his table, he was shocked.

And when he looked up, his eyes widened when he saw [Name] standing there with a small smile gracing her lips.

"Happy Birthday Hajime-kun!"

The folder that he was holding slipped out of his fingers and dropped onto the table and he continued staring at her, skeptical of whether he had heard her correctly.

"How did you know that it's today?" He mentally face palmed at his own stupidity. He could have thanked her properly like how any other ordinary person would have done, but he went ahead and asked her something stupid. As he was internally cursing at himself, he didn't notice the blush rising on her face.

"Oikawa-san told me..."

"Hajime-kun," she mumbled when she saw that he wasn't looking straight at her. Upon hearing his name, he immediately turned his gaze back at her nervous expression. "I think... I think that you might be my soulmate."

She pulled up her sleeve to show him her tattoo.

How did you know that it's today?

When he didn't react, she grew worried and started to turn away, embarrassed. "Sorry if I'm mistaken! I'll just be heading on to class now."

"Wait!"

[Name] looked back at him, pleasantly surprised to see the tips of his ears dyed red.

"You're not mistaken," he cleared his throat, refusing to meet her gaze. "I was just shocked, that's all."

She giggled at how someone who looked as manly as him was actually so shy on the inside, and she slowly reached out to hold his hand.

Lacing their fingers together, she noticed how perfectly her hands fit into his larger ones. And when she looked up, she was glad to see his dark eyes peering down affectionately at her.

"Happy Birthday, soulmate."

I'm a little iffy with this fic since I sort of forced it out when I dont really have any good ideas. This was written at like 5am in the morning cos I don't ever sleep lololol. I just wanted to be in time for iwa-chan's birthday! I'm actually late already but im sure its still 10 June somewhere in the world when I posted this xD

I really like Iwaizumi's character and I think I'll probably write for him again some other time~
