An "I couldn't care less" attitude would best sum up this dog's personality. Lairu is startingly indifferent a majority of the time. He figures that people will go about living their ways, and all the while he'll go about living his. As long as no one attempts to interfere with his manner of living, his beliefs or his morals, he'll have little issues with a person, or really even care. That being said, if he feels that someone is speaking out against something that applies to him—whether indirectly or directly—and that his opinion needs to be shared, he will do so. Bluntly. Lairu can be rather callous with his words. Whether he realizes it or not depends on the level of value he places upon the other's feelings. He knows how to weigh the validity of one's words to decide if what they're saying would better him or worsen him.

Emotions wrapped neatly under a mask of coolness and calm, Lairu rarely shows his anger outwardly. Not to say he doesn't get angry, as he can most certainly hold a grudge—he simply has a different way of showing it. He tends to be very sly, sneaky, and constructs his wording in a way that attempts to insult someone's who's redirected the path of his ire onto them. This, in turn, can make him a rather spiteful individual. Jealousy can quickly take ahold of him, as once he establishes a bond with someone, he can be very possessive over them. Basically, if you're too close, and he doesn't know you that well, he won't hesitate to shoo shoo you away. Attempting to take something that belongs to him? I'd advise not or you better have a damn good reason for doing so. Not only is he possessive but he is also a very determined individual, diligent to achieve each goal that he sets for himself. This applies to both ideas and people. In that regard, his determination can make him a bit stubborn. He's also one to follow completely through with any set of rules he deems logical.

Yet despite his tendencies to have an overall bad atittude, he doesn't necessarily mind being around people. He can make an effort to get along...to the best of his ability. He can be rather patient and with his overall indifferent attitude it makes it easier for him to understand two sides of an argument. Lairu has always been a curious pup and thus it's made him very observant. He pays great attention to detail, noticing the little things, and prefers to stay silent and observe as opposed to making his presence widely known.  Whether he takes those little things into consideration, however, depends. Yet he is also fairly distant as well; he keeps to himself and doesn't mind being alone with his thoughts from time to time. So don't take offense if he doesn't jump at the first chance to hang out with you. Confident of himself, he doesn't need other people to reassure him to feel better; not always, at least. And because of this confidence, he expects the same out of other people as well.

Hometown
Mahogany Town/Goldenrod City
History
The quiet enviroment of Mahogany Town was where the Jhi family resided; it was in that small part of Johto where restaurant-owner connoisseur Sun-woo Jhi and dance instructor Veronica Mipa tied their knots, deciding to settle down and begin their new family. And it was in that town where the young parents gave birth to their first child, a little Houndour they named Lairu Jhi.

Life was rather simple and fairly quiet; wake up, eat, learn something new, play a bit, go to sleep—that was the routine for the growing pup as he developed through his childhood. It didn't take long before Lairu was enrolled into a charter elementary school, and at around seven years old, his parents had given birth to another puppy they named Amelia. Much like his childhood, even things at school were fairly quiet. However, in the first few weeks of his 5th grade year, Lairu had returned from school with a nagging cough. Initially his parents hadn't thought too much of it, thinking it to be a mere cold, yet when it worsened each day to the point where Lairu needed to be placed on bedrest, the idea of this illness being a simple 'cold' was discarded. Turns out, the virus had spread through most of Lairu's fifth grade class, and it seemed that other residents of Mahogany Town had contracted the same sickness as well. Though doctors assured them that he was fine, his parents were skeptical to believe that, and knowing that they now had a still-developing infant to add to their family as well, they didn't want to take the chance.

So, the Jhi family moved from Mahogany to Goldenrod.

Thankfully, Lairu's sickness faded in the first week of being in Goldenrod City, and though his parents argued over whether or not he should attend school again, his father decided to enroll him into—this time—a public school, where the population of students was larger and sicknesses were unlikely to spread as quickly. He skipped his sixth grade year, his father instead preffering to hire a tutor so that Lairu's health could be properly monitored. After the year had passed, however, Lairu was enrolled into Goldenrod High School's 7th & 8th grade program. The shift from the private school mentality to the public school mentality was an...odd transition. In academics, it was very much the same, but Lairu found that not only were public school students allowed a more substantial amount of freedom but they also had quite a few perceptions already on the way 'private' school kids behaved. Snooty, stuck-up, know-it-all's. Which...well, with his slow-forming attitude, it certainly seemed that he fit the stereotype. And, vice versa, Lairu had already manifested preconceived notions of public school kids that they were loud, uncouth and rowdy. He wasn't very far off with some students.

Needless to say, he didn't get along with very many but at the same time, making friends with everyone wasn't really a concern of his; plus, being alone wasn't so bad, considering when he was home he often kept in his room to drown out his parents' arguments. At least he found solace in some cliques.

One of those 'cliques' was the upperclassmen (a mixed group of 8th graders and HS fresh-soph) who—as they describe it—enjoyed living 'on edge' and having fun. Of course, Lairu was curious and eventually clicked with them after a handful of smaller...discrepancies, most where he got his ass handed to him. But they offered him something he hadn't been used to—a go-to place. After school ended for the day, normally they hung out around the Radio Tower, one of Goldenrod's most notable places of interest. Speakers would often play the stations available, and Lairu would always perk up to listen; music, commercials, radio-hosts and shows...it got him interested in broadcasting and media in general, especially on the few occasions he got to speak with a few of the broadcasters.

As time went on and Lairu grew older, his parents began to find more and more things—often very small—to fight over. Though he kept to his room and was still at a fairly young age, he was not ignorant to the subjects they chose to argue over; parenting, money, living conditions, but mostly money. They didn't see eye-to-eye on that at all. Normally, Lairu could tune out the arguments, having become overall numb to them, yet when they began progressing in volume, he sought out those go-to places where his friends often stayed. The nighttime hours he spent in the city grew longer and longer, and instead of questioning his curfew, his parents instead used his consistent absence as fuel to add to their fire.

At the end of his Freshman year, his parents filed for divorce.

From thence, Sun-woo took custody of both Lairu and Amy, and the house life became just a little more peaceful in Lairu's eyes. He still went on his nighttime escapades throughout his high school years, on the agreement with his father that he would return home by his curfew. By 17, he had saved up and learned to ride his first motorcycle to join his 'biker gang' friends, and through the midst of their excursions, he came across a young, rich little Lopunny named Violet SaintHilaire. She... Well, to put it quite simply, she baffled him; he couldn't comprehend, really, why this Freshman girl continually pestered him. While he didn't particularly like her, he did tolerate her, and she somehow considered them friends.

Senior year and high school graduation came in the blink of an eye. Eventually, Lairu decided to bid his adieus to his family and Goldenrod City, deciding that—in order to become a producer or director—he would go to college to study Media Studies. He went to a university in the Kanto region for his freshman year yet decided to transfer out, feeling that the Media Studies program didn't encompass as much as it had promised. Thus, the search was on again for a college that would be able to supply the classes he needed. Amongst the flyers and brochures, Mirage College seemed like the best option for now.

So, taking his transfer-credits with him, he applied.

Extras▲
○Is Korean-Filipino.
•Voiced by: Jason James Dy ; English-Korean Speaking ; Korean Speaking
•His accent when speaking, however, is only slight compared to his VA and is more Korean than Filipino.
•However, he is still fluent in both languages, making him multilingual.
○Lairu is actually the recessive species gene in his family: his father is a Ninetails, his mother an Arcanine, and Amy a Growlithe; the Houndour-Houndoom species line, however, was found on both sides of his parents' (grandfather on his father's side, grandmother on his mom's).
Has a high tolerance for pain, quite like that of a Pit Bull Terrier.
○Despite his lack of obvious ears, his hearing is still fairly decent.
○He regularly smokes cigarettes and picked up the habit from his father and peers.
•It's a habit that usually keeps him calm and levelheaded in stressful situations.
○Surprisingly, spicy foods are not a particular favorite of his despite being a Fire type. He likes the taste of dry foods because they negate the ever-present flames and heat in his body, acting as a sort of neutralizer.
○The symbol for his first name is actually Hindi since it doesn't exist in Korean/Chinese...
○When surprised/startled, he'll bark; it's a completely involuntary reaction that embarrasses him greatly.
•He's retained many dog-like mannerisms.
○Lacking the ability of Early Bird, he is often very lazy in the mornings, one of the reasons why he's scheduled his work hours for the evening.
○He considers himself a bit of a handy-man and has a penchant for repairing things.
○He has a motorcycle burn on the side of his right calf.
○Yes, his tattoos are reminiscent of a bullseye.
○His favorite color is blue.
○Learned a little bit of Hip Hop dancing from working in his mother's dance studio from time to time.
○His speech, at times, can be overly formal or a bit antiquated.
○Was known as 'The Dream Thief' among his friends for his use of Dream Eater.
