Tl;dr his history: Usual story of a kid being sold except instead of undergoing hardship and learning the importance of friendship w/e he's just a spoiled-ass brat.

Personality:

Playful and curious, Ruan tends to be a lazy opportunist. Ultimately, however, he's harmless and can be both sensible and good natured. He gives the impression of being naive to most, but in reality he's simply learned to be forgiving due to complications with how he views himself. In any case, because the body he inhabits is not his own, his nature is a little volatile swinging from childishness (the spoiled nature of Kagerou) and reasonable understanding (Ruan's learned nature). He doesn't have a split personality however-- his mood swings are connected strongly to certain situations and Kagerou's residual nature lies solely in muscle memory.

History:

<sub>Kagerou is the sole son of a scholar and a goldsmith, making up a small family which was neither large nor very powerful despite being quite wealthy. Still, his childhood was a blissful one and the altaria neither lacked attention nor expensive gifts growing up. Disliking the fire and grit that came with jewelry making that was his father's profession, Kagerou took after his mother in his younger years, becoming quite well-learned in the process. Unfortunately, both Kagerou's mother and father lacked the heart to discipline him in any way or form, given that Kagerou himself was born weak and prone to illness. Fearing that stress would incapacitate their only child-- a son, at that-- the Ichiharas couldn't help but let Kagerou run wild as much as he liked.

Growing up in a stable household and given anything he liked, Kagerou's luck in life continued to hold even when his father's business failed. At the age of fourteen, he was sold to cover his father's debt, although Kagerou's story remained largely unchanged. The master who bought him enjoyed his willful ways and so Kagerou became a servant who was more of a decoration and a companion than anything. Despite having no real status, Kagerou was given the ability to run the house while his master was gone-- naturally incurring the ire of the other servants. Still, Kagerou tends to be mentally resilient even if he's not physically strong and any attempt at bullying him led to dismissals or unfortunate accidents for those in question.

Kagerou's luck does eventually run out, especially upon meeting a certain prideful fox. To his own misfortune, Kagerou had made a passing remark on Izumi's tails-- or lack thereof-- and continued pressing the matter until the ninetales promised the altaria a kind of personal hell. While Kagerou had largely forgotten the meeting, he would be reminded of it when his master's will was read several months later. The fox had convinced his master that a great man should be buried with all his wealth to be enjoyed in the next life-- and so Kagerou, as one of the master's prized possessions, was to be buried alive with him.</sub>

Suffocated within the coffin as he was buried, Kagerou himself never woke from that slumber. Instead, the ninetales returned for him while the altaria was within an inch of death, digging him out and using the body to host someone he wanted to revive.

Thus, Ruan was called back from the dead.

• He has to take medication constantly or he will faint without warning
  
• His sash solidifies into something like fur but when it's wet it turns somewhat cloud-like and becomes weightless. He's also never seen without it.
