[Short backgroun: Angry kid with jailed dad living with his uncle and twin cousins.  Knows he's got a muggle mom who doesn't really want anything to do with magic, him or his dad.  She possibly could have had a memory charm placed on her to help keep her from exposing magic to other muggles ]

It's November the 16th, 15 years ago, storm clouds hung low over another night in London.  A baby screams as it breathes it's first breath, and is welcomed to our world.  The proud parents you ask?  An unmarried couple, mother, a muggle Londoner, Amelia Romano aged 18, and the father, 23 year old Scottish wizard Arden Salkhir.  A happy little family of 3, the previous 8 and a half months completely forgotten as the proud parents look down at their little bundle of joy.

The months leading up to the baby's birth were filled with heartache and anger, Arden's family scolding the young wizard about falling for a common muggle girl while they had high hopes for him marrying a witch of high standing, and Amelia's strict British Italian parents not standing for the sinful relationship and premarital pregnancy.

Amelia was kicked out of her parent's house a month or so after her condition became public, so Arden had rented a little flat for them to live in together, all the while being pressured by his family to either leave the muggle, or tell her about his magical abilities.  He chose not to tell her out of fear she might leave him.

The two young lovers, and future parents enjoyed the few months leading up to their child's birth though, angry parents and family aside. And finally when their child was born, 2 weeks earlier than expected, they were the happiest parents alive.

After a week in the hospital, the mother and her child were sent home.  They decided to name their baby Tomas, Amelia thought it was a nice name, and Arden refused to name his child after any family member.  Arden hoped he'd never have to tell his love about his magical past, but as luck would have it, you couldn't run away from your past for too long.

Around four years into young Tom's life, Arden's older brother, Akkarin, came to visit them in their little flat.  Akkarin talked to his brother and convinced him to tell Amelia about magic, and of their family, about how their little son Tom will most likely also be a wizard.  At first Amelia thought it was a joke, but when the brothers decided to bring her to their family home, a large estate where only Akkarin and his two kids lived, and show her their magic, she couldn't help but believe them.

The knowledge that Arden and his family were wizards however scared Amelia, and she reacted badly, she broke things off with Arden, took her things and left him, leaving Tom with Arden as well, refusing to have anything to do with this 'evil' they were trying to bring her into.

This broke Arden's heart, and he blamed the one who, in his eyes, caused this all to happen.  His brother, Akkarin.  Arden swore to cause Akkarin as much pain as his brother had caused him, and since Akkarin's wife had died years before, Arden decided to attack Akkarin directly, using the forbidden Cruciatus Curse on him.  He wanted to hurt his brother as much as he was hurting because of his lost love.

Akkarin at least survived the attack with his strong will, his sanity staying in tact.  Though the use of the curse resulted in Arden being sentenced to life in Azkaban. 

Tom was taken in by Akkarin and later adopted by him.  He already had 2 children named Anniki and Aleki, twins, a sister and brother, who eagerly accepted their new younger brother/cousin.  Anniki and Aleki were 7 at the time and quickly got the little 4 year old used to his new life in the Wizarding world on their big estate in the highlands of Scottland.  Akkarin worked for the Ministry of Magic and had a pretty high up position, so money and opportunities were never hard to come by.  The four regularly traveled around, seeing new places and meeting different people in the Wizarding world.

The big estate they lived on was situated in a big community of Wizards and Witches, so magic was a very common thing around them, Tom took to it naturally and enjoyed playing with his older cousins, watching them get a hang of their abilities.  He regularly followed Aleki, his adopted brother, around like a shadow, hence where his nickname came from.  Aleki was fairly good at quidditch and enjoyed teaching his younger cousin how to play it, they loved watching quidditch games together, Aleki the Chaser, and Tom the beater.

At the age of 11 the twins received their letters to attend Hogwarts and left Tom with his uncle on the estate.  Vacation times the twins came back and eagerly shared their stories about their adventures at Hogwarts with Tom.  Though all the while the thought that maybe Tom wasn't as 'gifted' as his adopted family plagued Akkarin, and the thought that he could possibly be a Squib, persisted.  Akkarin himself was a late bloomer as a child, and was almost labeled as one.

Luckily that wasn't the case and around Tom's 9th birthday, he finally showed some magical ability when he managed to conjure a fireball to chase off a wild dog that had attacked him on the estate when he was out exploring once.  At 11 he finally received his letter, and attended Hogwards the very next school year. 

Tom's first few years at Hogwards were spent causing trouble, getting in trouble and bugging his cousins, usually spending his time with them.  He didn't really make that many friends.

He mostly now spends his time skulking around alone, since his cousins are mostly doing their own things now, but they do hope that this year will be the year he makes a friend or two. 

Amelia - Birth mother, muggle who lives in London, of Italian decent, has lived her whole life in England.  Left Tom's father after finding out he's a Wizard.
Arden - Half-blood wizard of high standing, used a forbidden curse on his brother and is now spending life in Azkaban.  Still harbors ill feelings towards Akkarin.
Akkarin - Older brother to Arden, works for the Ministry of Magic in a high position and travels around a lot, adopted Tom when his mother left and his father got sent to Azkaban.  Is a bit of a strange man...
Aleki - Older cousin of Tom, best friend, adopted brother, bit of a show off know it all according to Tom.  Currently 18 years old.
Anniki - Older cousin of Tom, regularly got annoyed by her, adopted sister, she confuses Tom.  Currently 18 years old, surprise surprise.
