Details

Personality: Annatar is a no-nonsense, straightforward doe. If nobody else will take up an important job, she's not afraid to pile in there and get her hands dirty. In the past, that meant perhaps taking on extra training sessions or patrols, for the good of Blackwood. Now? Well. She's found another job nobody wants to do.

In her chosen role as a childbearer, Annatar is very business-like. She will accept only the best stags as rutmates; anything less would be an insult to both her and to Blackwood. She expects stags to battle it out to prove their capabilities, and only once a stag has successfully defeated all his competitors and proven his strength will she allow him near her. Over the years, she has gained preferences for some of the stags, and a few of the soldiers hold special places in her heart, having won her more than once. However, she is not biased in her rut choices, and will stand by her decision of taking the victor every time.

As a mother, she is vicious. Not towards her fawns, but certainly towards predators and any she believes might prove dangerous to her childrens' wellbeings. She is protective and fierce and won't hesitate to attack any that looked the wrong way at her or her fawns. Towards her children, she is caring but strict. Like her parents did to her, she tries to make them strong, and starts their training early so that by the time their coming of age ritual comes, they will succeed and be put on a fast-track into the army. She is incredibly proud of all her fawns, and considers them Blackwood's insurance for the future.

She is tactically-minded by nature, and will switch between her chosen roles as necessary. In times of war or extreme drought, she will put rut on hold in order to focus on keeping the fawns she currently has hale and healthy. However if she deems the time appropriate, she will resume her rut traditions.

Appearance: A large, well-built doe, she isn't one you would think to cross by looking at her. She is lithe but muscled, and her belly is often rounded with the gentle swell of pregnancy. When not in-fawn, she is stockily built and takes measures to bulk up her muscle mass further, so that when she becomes more sedentary during pregnancy, she has plenty of muscle and bulk to burn through. Her left ear is slightly ripped, from one of her trials against a wolf back in her youth.

Her mane is intricately braided, adorned with simple gold beads, while her neck is strung with a leather choker that she shines with plant oils. Many of these are gifts from her preferred suitors, and she wears them with pride. They also allow for her easy identification amongst other herd members, which is useful for her purposes. As for her tail, she keeps it bound at all times, not liking the uncertainty and potential tripping and/or snagging hazard it would otherwise be. 

History: Annatar's fawnhood was a typical one. Both her parents were soldiers, and were naturally very patriotic; as such, she herself became intensely pro-Blackwood, and it is a trait she carries proudly to this day. When she reached her coming of age, she successfully completed her ritual kill on the first try, bringing down a small wolf. Unsatisfied with the victory, she completed a second trial the year after, this time taking the claim of a larger wolf. The ritual is one she tries to complete every year now -- a sort of personal tradition of sorts.
Growing up, she had only three other playmates of the same age, two of whom were lost to their coming of age rituals. As she passed her test and continued to train for the army, she was constantly amazed by the sheer low numbers of fawns each year, even in times of (comparative) plenty. Where were all the babies? How was their glorious empire ever to grow, if there were so few future soldiers? The current trend of does abstaining from rut or focusing on their own places in the army, while admirable in the latter case, was sure to cause a fall in the herd's already scarce numbers...

So, she made the decision to do what other does were perhaps unable to do; she would take it upon herself to swell the ranks of Blackwood's army herself, by taking a mate every rut she could stand it and bearing worthy fawns for the Mother. She also has made it a point to care for be raise the fawns of any other does that either are unable to watch them, along with the forest's orphans.
