Keeping the Memories
Sitting in a crowd among hundreds of people blending in to a sea of shadows. The prosperous graduates sat silently and anxiously awaiting for their greatest accomplishment to be known to their families and friends. I gaze at the ambitious and familiar faces surrounding me, and unexpectedly I began to encounter past memories. I could recall many good and bad memories; but today the bad memories floated a stray while the good ones remained.

I left you in earnest long ago
The ceremony lingered,
Seared and pressed deeply,
A direct part of me because you cannot be.
I wonder sometimes where you are,
Ashamed of my irrational caring
I’m not even a passing thought in these shadows,
