History

Prior to her birth, her mother, Ripple, was the leader of a close-knit group called the Merry Band of Thieves. Comprised of about four to five other cats, they would roam the alleys and streets for objects of value and interest along with survival necessities. Bullies and those corrupted with power and greed became common victims to their raid attacks. The main objective was to take all they could without means of violence and give it to the unfortunate ones in true need, but not everything happens according to plan. Involved in some incidents that may have resulted in one or two casualties, it wasn’t very surprising that a few villains came to be part of the  picture. For their own protection, their camp in the farthest back alley was moved over to a nearby island in the middle of a lake and though it took a while, all the members learned to properly swim in order to make the trip back and forth. Despite the heartbreaking fact that they were forced away from a place considered home,  the new area proved to be pretty promising. It provided food and shelter to travelers and outsiders the group took in and helped as well as cut down on the amount of runs they went on into the streets, mostly just for the valuables at this point. It wasn’t until a few moons later when her mother met a cat that went by the title of the Lone Wanderer. She was charmed from the very first conversation they shared, instantly smitten and him with her, showering her with foreign novelties from his own adventures. Alas, nothing lasts forever. He regrettably had to continue his exploration and though he invited her to accompany him, she couldn’t bear to part with her family. With the promise that he would visit her again, good-byes were said and he went on his way. Then when newleaf came around the bend, a warm surprise had come in the form of a single kit.

Born a runt, she was given the name Minnow for her size and the sheen grey of her coat. As an only child, her mother never spared her a moment alone which had been an absolutely delightful experience. She was basically stuck to her mother’s side at all times who was the best of the best in her eyes. Starting from the moment she stood up, she was taught how to swim before walking, looking like a fish out of water when that time finally came. She developed strong muscles this way and a strong preference of being in the water rather than on land. It hadn’t even been a quarter-moon yet when it was decided she would be instructed on the Art of Stealing. And by the time she was of around 6 moons, she was already on pare with her mother and going on routine runs with the group. It wasn’t long until she had obtained her own hoard of fascinating trinkets, a few of which she still keeps with her today.

While on one of their scheduled runs, the group had been split due to a rumor that their target had been tipped off to what they were up to. They got into two groups of three, Minnow choosing, of course, to stay with her mother and continued on their designated path to their objective location. It was unfortunate though that it was a trap, and they had realized it all too late. A traitor, who would've thought. Blitz attacked, her experience in physical tactics stood no chance along with being held back by disbelief. Critically injured but still conscious, she watched the other cats advance towards her mother who in turn could only stare back. With the odds against them, the last thing she remembers her saying was, “Run”. Wobbling with the last bit of energy she had, Minnow escaped through a narrow opening and collapsed onto the deserted pathway just outside before blacking out.

When she came to, the first thing that hit her was the potent scent surrounding her, seeming to be a mixture of lavender and cat-mint. The floor was hard and cold, covered in different shades of brown like the bark of a tree and the air had a slight buzzing noise. Then it was the black fabric around her neck in which she reached up and touched, covered completely in lines of binary. She had found some of them before and if she remembered correctly, had been told it was called a collar, something two-legs gave their kittypets. Wait, kittypets. Getting a grasp of the situation, her mind flew into a frenzy and the scenes from their last run became clear. It was at the moment she saw two two-legs appear out of the corner of her eye. Instinctively on edge, she stood in a hostile stance. However, still in recovery, her legs couldn’t hold her weight and collapsed under her. The two rushed forward and when they had picked her up, it wasn’t very surprising that one was weakly bitten by Minnow. The housefolk were a couple who studied in the field of electronics and at that point, it was decided that they would call her Lil’ Byte.

It was a difficult few moons for Lil’ Byte before she learned to adapt, especially during her recovery. Though she was grateful that the twolegs had saved her life and allowed her to live in their nest, it didn’t stop her from using the majority of her time outside as well as begin stealing again. In the little town, it wasn’t long till she made herself known since sneaking into the other nest were no different than what she previously did. She never stopped believing that her mother was still out there somewhere, and hoped that all the attention might attract her.

Vulnerable in the state she was in, having lost not just her mother, but her entire family, a Dark Forest cat saw her opportunity. Appearing in a dream, Mapleshade introduced herself and offered her assistance. Explaining her ancestry and how she had helped one by the name of Crookedstar, the deceptive she-cat told stories of the previous clans and how she, Lil’ Byte, was meant to rebuild them. Skeptical of what she was being told, she couldn't help but completely laugh it off. That was, until Mapleshade mentioned her mother, saying that was she had survived and was still alive. That she could promise her well-being and safety until they met again. With those words, her faith was sealed in a heartbeat without any second thoughts.

Having joined the other cats willing to rebuild the clans, she gladly took the territory found at the base of multiple waterfalls since it reminded her of her original home by being completely surrounded by water. From that point, she set the goal of becoming a great leader that would make her mother proud, welcoming everyone and anyone.

About

Personality:

+ Adventurous | | willing to take risks or to try out new methods, ideas, or experiences +

From rock hopping to waterfall diving, Minnowstar is up to anything that gets her heart a pumping. That exhilarating thrill of not knowing what exactly was going to happen gives all the more reason to follow up and find out. She’s fearless, staring death straight in the eyes with a playful hint in her own. It also means that she’s more keen about compromise, willing to give it a try if it seems sound enough.

+ Persuasive | | good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning or the use of temptation +

"My mother always said I had a taste for silver."
"No... She said that you had a silver tongue.
"Same difference."

Coming from a life of swindling, she had to learn fast how to get out of sticky situations. Due to her small stature, she hadn’t quite developed the toned figure she currently holds and tried to avoid physical conflict when it could be helped. It helped customarily when the group needed to barter a few objects found on routine runs.

+ Flexible | | ready and able to change so as to adapt to different circumstances +

She can’t even begin to count the number of different cats she came upon when going around with her mother along with when she became a kittypet. How she speaks to another is based on a perceived notion, based on observed actions and habits, of their preferred way of communication. She’ll go along and match how excitable or poised she needs to be in order for the other cat to feel comfortable. Certain personas appeal more to certain cats and she has learned that early on from when she had to either talk her way out, into, or for something. First impressions are the main key to lasting relationships, especially beneficial ones after all.

= Allocentric | | concerned with the interests of others more than one's own; community-minded =

Family is everything. With her mother mainly mentoring her, she adopted her ideals of putting others before herself. Their Gang of Merry Bandits was the family that her mother extensively took care of, as if they were children of her own while the other cats they took care of were like the extended half. They were first and foremost, her mother taking only what was necessary before giving whatever was left away. Applied to her clan, the needs of this new family of hers and the benefits they could get are thought of before reaching any kind of major decision.

= Thievish | | of, relating to, or given to stealing =

Besides learning to swim, thieving was taught to the point where it was as habitual as breathing. Being the daughter of a cat who blundered those well-off for the unfortunate ones, her life was basically built on her ability to perform and effectively use this skill.  She had to live up to high expectations as well considering she had learned from the best. Her mother did not give her a break and she knew that if she wanted to run with them, there was no room for error. As a collector of objects, this method has allowed her to accumulate a variety of things and depending on how far from the camp it had been retrieved from or if it was from two-legs, the more valuable she dubbed it. Those mainly included stray objects found in the territory of other clans.

= Hospitable | | friendly and welcoming to strangers or guests =

When it comes to her clan, strangers are welcomed with open arms and guests are shown the utmost kindness, that is, until something about their behavior or actions are characterized as suspicious. Allowing an outsider is a great risk, no doubt, but it is a way for the clan to grow. She won’t hesitate to confront someone and if found guilty, to send them on their own way. Outsiders are welcome to come and go as they like, join even, but if they’re causing trouble, she isn’t having any of it.

- Absentminded | | lost in thought and unaware of one's surroundings or actions; having or showing a lack of attention -

Similar to ADHD in two-legs, Minnowstar isn’t able to keep focus on much for a prolonged period of time, or to get to the point, she has a short attention span. She may not say it, but if she isn’t able to keep up with a conversation or suddenly changes the topic, she’s genuinely sorry. It has failed to aid her more than preferred and even in the midst of battle, may not allow her to be aware of the actual danger her life could be in.

- Unforgiving | | not willing to forgive or excuse people's faults or wrongdoings -

For someone who adapts to those around her, trust can take forever to build and longer to rebuild.  Having been betrayed once already, she isn’t about to let it happen again. One mistake, one slip up, and it’s over in a matter of seconds. Though time will go on and things may seem like they’re back to normal, don’t let yourself believe that she’s forgiven you in the slightest. Consider yourself lucky and no doubt special if you’re given a second chance.

- Amoral | | having or showing no concern about whether behavior is morally right or wrong -

Once you’re in RiverClan, it doesn’t matter if you believe in StarClan or the Dark Forest. Everyone has their personal preference for personal reasons. But you're part of the family now and as long as what you do is for the clan, there’ll be no complications between you and Minnowstar. To an extent, cats are allowed to be themselves and do what they want as long as the Golden Rule is followed. Bullies will not be tolerated and it’s no longer “All for one and one for all” here.

Other Information:

Hyperfocus | | An intense form of mental concentration or visualization that focuses the consciousness on a narrow subject

While it is hard for her to stay focused and give sustained attention to a specific activity, this feature goes hand-in-hand with it in a somewhat positive manner. When hyperfocusing, Minnowstar immerses herself so completely in the task at hand that she may become oblivious to everything around her. Although it may cause her to lose track of time, other duties, or the surrounding environment, it allows her to work intensely on difficult tasks. It becomes a problem when the focus is accidently placed upon something unproductive.

Insomniac | | Having the inability to obtain sufficient sleep, through difficulty in falling or staying asleep

Due to how easily she can become distracted, it’s exceptionally difficult for her to find a peace of mind and properly rest. Daily tasks and duties are often done after the sun sets and into the night, spending the majority of her time near the edges of RiverClan territory. Though she may appear alert during the day, she occasionally has fits of drowsiness at random moments causing her at times to fall asleep in unexpected places such as when lounging in the water.

Roleplay Sample
The camp was empty as its inhabitants slept to the sound of crickets in the air, the soft babble of the natural stream that poured from the falls. Standing at the entrance of her den, Minnowstar watched the world continue on, restless as always. She leapt down and made her way to the edge, the liquid gently lapping the sides in an attempt to get on top and stepping into it, made her way past the training area to where there was a slight slope covered with glistening grass. It was the main way they traveled to get to the Gatherings along with being the only way so far to reach above ground. Pawsteps light and airy, she walked along the rim of the cliff that encircled them until she reached a source river. Sitting close enough to where the water kissed her paws, she posed herself to hunt. However, moments after getting settled, her eyes, as focused as they may have seemed, fluttered. She shook her head, fuzzy with the need for sleep and turning around, slowly began to lay the rest of her body within the heated confinements of the stream. With her head perched on land and her body curling itself up, the small she-cat gave into its warmth.
