BACKGROUND
==================

Well, it was for sure now.  Candace was a celebrity, though not in the way she'd hoped to be one.  Stopping those robbers was one thing.  Being known as the girl who turned a mall cop into a lime by accident?  Not the kind of fame she wanted.  When pressured to, she turned herself in.  Seemed like the right thing to do.

She hoped it would be something simple, like a disorderly conduct charge.  Wrong.  Class B felony assault,  3 years in Camelorum.

She was in disbelief that her lawyer was so inept, and that the judge was so hard on her.  She rationalized that if it took that long for "Officer Lime" to completely change back to normal, then that made it fair.

The judge additionally slapped her with contempt for her rationalization - then nearly provoked her to attack by stating that he hoped her father was never found.  Because who could love a Lemon Witch anyway?  She tried pleading to a lesser of misdemeanor negligence; but no dice.  The jury inside just would have no pity. (Google that phrase for the reference.)  Chain labor was added to the sentence.

To Candace's relief, her family (what was left of them) remained supportive of her.  She knew she would probably not get to see her mom and little brother again for quite some time, so she decided to make the most of this visit.

Amelia: "Hey, C-D!"

Candace: "Hi, mom."

Amelia: "So...Lemon Witch.  You're...sticking with that?"

Candace: "Don't have much choice.  It's all over the media.  Fortunately, Camelorum is on the outskirts of town, so I won't be taken too terribly far away."

Bobby: "At least now I know what to say to those bullies if they bug me again!"

Candace: "That I'll turn them into watermelons?"

Bobby: "Well, that and...that they'd better hope to God you don't escape!"

Candace: "Unless I have good reason to, I don't plan on escaping, Bobby.  I have no interest in becoming the villain.  Staying here is what will validate me."

Amelia: "How will you find a job if you're a Class B?"

Candace: "This may sound strange...but I already have a plan for that."

Amelia: "Meet any cute guards yet?"

Candace (in denial): "Uhm...not that cute...not yet!"

Guard (in distance): "Time's almost up!"

Bobby: "Don't drop-"

Candace: "Why not?"

Bobby looked sheepish, like he knew he'd misspoken.

Candace: "Suppose I do, Bobby, then what?  I turn them into sunflower seeds if they try anything?"

Bobby: "Are you gonna shower with those gloves on?"

Amelia: "Bobby!!!"

Candace: "The gloves don't give me the power, silly!  They...just help me control it.  So...no more accidents."

Amelia: "We gotta go soon, but we'll see you again when we can."

Candace: "Absolutely.  And mom..."

Amelia: "Yes?"

Candace: "Don't trust Xiboruty.  Ever!  That creep did this to me!  And he's plotting something big!  Keep yourself and Bobby far away!  I think he has Dad in some lab of his too!"

Amelia: "Xiboruty vanished.  I guess now I know why.  We can't always understand our callings in life, but must be ready to accept them anyway.  Guess you now know that better than anyone."

Guard: "Time's up...though...this story is quite intriguing me."

Candace: "Don't worry, Ritchie, we were just wrapping up."

Amelia: "Write us periodically!"

Candace: "I will, Mom.  And Bobby..."

Bobby: "Yes?"

Candace: "Just remember...watermelons!"

Bobby: "Got ya!"

Little did she know that Bobby would load lemon juice into a Super Soaker and attack the bullies at school with it one day, while beating some of them with a watermelon.  Not the inspiration she wanted to instill, even though she would figure they probably deserved it.
