Terra - Final Fantasy 6

She's everyone's favorite green-haired half-human half-esper with an epic lietmotif; it's Terra from Final Fantasy VI (still the best in the Final Fantasy series - take that, overrated FF7! FF6 was my favorite SNES game - I must have replayed it at least 9 or 10 times.) With the highest magic stat of all the characters, combined with her special ability of morphing into esper-form, doubling her already high magic power, Terra is easily the most powerful character in the game.

I remember figuring out an unbeatable strategy for FF6 that essentially makes your team invincible, while also demolishing all the enemies at the same time. Learn the spell Merton. It's the most powerful fire spell - I think it's as powerful as Ultima! - but a downside to it is that normally it heavily damages your own party as well as enemies. However, if you equip everyone in your party with fire absorbing armor... see where I'm going with this?... then Merton becomes both the most powerful attacking spell AND the most powerful HP-restoring spell at the same time! With the exception of the few enemies immune to fire, you'll easily plow through all the most powerful enemies in the game. This strategy works so well, I don't even recommend using it all the time, lest you want to sap all the challenge from the game.

EDIT: I fact-checked myself and realized what I said above was wrong. The FF6 character with the highest magic stat was not Terra, but Relm . Who knew?
