Species Description: Astral Mages could be considered by some as a sub-species of witch, but to break it down to brass tacks they are not that similar at all. Astral Mages focus starlight and moonlight into concentrated attacks of energy (typically using a staff because it can burn their hands otherwise, although some have figured out alternative ways). Although they don’t need the dusk for their powers to work, it increases their strength. Astral Mages can also emit a soft glow from their bodies, sometimes able to harness it into harmless stars around them (by legend this only occurred when one was heavily intoxicated or embarrassed- something to do with their body temperature perhaps?).

    ·         Constellation Materialization – Ursa Major the Bear: Orion can materialize bear claws of light over his hands; useful in combat but extremely bothersome over long periods of time. If he takes off his gloves you can see that due to previous use of this power he has large scars, results from burning his hands with this technique.

    ·         Constellation Materialization – Orion the Hunter: Although he is yet to master the shape of the hunter’s club, Orion can meld starlight into the shape of a Greek shield as a defensive technique.

Likes:

• Quiet, open nights where the stars are out and at their fullest
• Chocolate; he’ll politely nibble on it in public but deep down he is in sweet-tooth-heaven
• Laughter. Although he wouldn’t consider himself a comedian, he loves to hear people giggle and laugh and chuckle. Just being around people who are having a good time boosts his attitude, even if the reason behind the laughter is of mal-intent.
• Silver. It’s just beautiful.

• Rainy days; they totally drain his energy and bum him out

Strengths:

• Driven; Orion knows how to take a fall and get back up again. It’s hard to slow him down because if he finds something difficult then he’ll just smile and try even harder.
• Open/Honest; He doesn’t really believe in lying to people, so he’s just flat-out easy to talk to about anything. You want to know what colour underwear he’s wearing? Blue, whatever man.

Weaknesses: 

• Pushover; It doesn't take much to persuade Orion. A nudge here, a wink there, a "please?", and Orion will do whatever you need.
• Blabbermouth; His honesty goes a little too far. Do not trust Orion with your deepest secrets, because if someone asks then there is nothing stopping that boy from telling the whole school. (Not to be confused with being a chatterbox; Orion isn’t overly chatty)
• Illogical; Orion lacks a moral compass. He focuses on what he finds interesting and enjoyable over the consequences for the people around him. If he manages to do something out of his heart’s accord, it is not a guarantee that he won’t screw things up for another person or butcher his efforts entirely.

• Adventurous; whether in the library or outside, if Orion can find something interesting to captivate his attention and waste his boredom-filled time for an hour or two he’ll be happy. He’s willing to try new things if they’re foreign and interesting enough.
• Imaginative; he loves blowing things out of proportion just a little bit to make them more interesting in his head. 

    Orion really tries to be a good friend. He's approachable and honest, with a fairly easygoing attitude to life. Talk to him if you need to get something done, because he's always up for it. Especially if it involves going somewhere he's never been before. You'll frequently find him looking longingly at the sky, staring into the mysteries of the endless depths above him. That is, if he's not doing something brash for whatever reason. The boy runs on instinct because he didn't really have a motherly figure around to instill critical thinking, rational thought, and morality into his head, so it's probably not uncommon to find him getting into trouble some way or another. 

History:
     
    Orion's parents met in a strange way; his mother, being a sailor, often visited the lighthouses of each port. After one expedition she came across an observatory nearby the lighthouse and, being an astral mage, decided to take a look. This was the occupation of Orion's father's (Pit) family; hence why their family name had been "Etoiles" by all the locals, because despite the lack of French, they came from a long line of astronomers. The astral mage immediately swooned. The rest is basically history.

    Orion grew up in a small fishing village of humans. His mother was a practicing Astral Mage, but also a sailor. She left Orion with his father (abandoning the astronomy field to become a butcher) when he was in his pre-teens, and hasn't been seen for years. The village spread hushed rumours that her boat had sunk somewhere in the ocean the night of a deadly storm, while the children idolized her and dreamt she had gone down with the ship fighting a giant squid. Either way, both Orion and his father were heartbroken. Mrs. Etoiles was beautiful and would never be forgotten as her son dreamed of her frequently, reliving the moment they said goodbye over and over again.

    It was hard after that. Orion's father (Pit) did his best to raise him and teach him, but he knew he could only go so far. Pit knew that Orion had potential to be an Astral Mage, and could see the spark in his eye to be like his mother. He tried and he tried to find a teacher of magic - any kind of magic - in the pier village, but to no avail. No one was willing to mentor. Orion had been completely oblivious to his father's struggles, but as he got older his eyes became more observant. He noticed how tired and distraught his father was, how his eyes glossed over every now and then and how he tossed and grumbled in his sleep. Orion tried helping out at the butchery, and became skilled at butterflying fish and skinning meats. No matter what he did, though, nothing seemed to bring back the light in Pit's eyes.

    Some time in the summer, when Orion was sixteen, Pit got piss-drunk and cried out into the night, begging his wife's return for their son's sake. He broke the living room table that night. Orion couldn't take his father's suffering any more. With a short discussion and clipped farewell, he set out on his own to learn magic. He'd do his best to make his father proud.

    Since then, Orion figured out on his own how to manipulate some starlight - albeit nowhere close to the strength or grace of his mother. He shaped it in two different ways, but knew he could still do so much better. Hence, he travelled for weeks and finally arrived at Otherworlde.

    After arriving at Otherworlde, the astral mage learned quite a bit - and got into quite a bit of trouble, too! He made friends, played truth-or-dare and almost got in trouble with his professor, went to the Valentine's Day dance and got himself plastered drunk (and then extremely hung over the next day), and even went on a field trip to the Buddhaic Plane and had a strange vision.  

    
Misc. Information:

• It takes a lot to make him blush
• He really enjoys climbing, but really has no idea how to get down so he doesn't climb very high
• He loves listening to music but can't sing to save his life
• His last name is french (if you couldn't guess) for 'stars'; he grew up in a small fishery in France. (Cassis, France, to be precise. So although he has a faint French accent here and there and can say a few words in French, it is a tourist pier and therefore English is his first and only official language.) So now that I have a reliable resource for french he can speak it a little better now
• Sometimes he sneezes and stardust goes everywhere
• When he was little his mom made him go to church with the other town-kids. He's currently agnostic

Let's face it, Orion got lost on his first day, exploring way too deeply into the school. Instead of following several other students as they assembled their way into the Bone dormitories, Orion took a left somewhere along the way. He walked with his head up, admiring the ceiling, with his bag slung over his shoulder and a slight grin on his face. The history here is amazing, He thought to himself in awe, only glancing down for a moment to avoid a suspicious floorboard. The moment he arrived Orion had noticed how much space he had above his head - something he was not used to, being over six feet tall. "I think I like it here already."
