So, you've decided you want to create a character of you own and join in writing the story of Mystery? That's excellent! We can't wait to see what you can bring to the group! Let's get started then. Here's what you need to do in order to make a character for Mystery (don't worry it doesn't have to be done in this exact order).

Pick a breed: Here at Mystery there is a wide variety of equine that have been brought to the island. No discrimination was shown, everyone got a second chance. This means you can pick from any equine and breed. Zebra, donkey, horse, or anything in between, they are all available at your fingertips and ready to be chosen. There are no magical unicorns or pegasi though. You'll have to limit your amazing creativity to breeds and equine that actually exist or to DA-made breeds that follow all "natural" horse "rules". This means breeds that look like other real horses and have the same colors are perfectly allowed. If they are made so that you could actually imagine them being a real life breed, you can use them.

Design your horse: As many choices as there are in breeds, there are in colors as well. With so many colors to pick from you'll be at it all day. Please try to keep within the breed colors though. That means you can't make a palomino Friesian. If you want something of a certain build but with a different color, don't be afraid to mix breeds to get what you're looking for. Just make sure the color is genetically possible for that breed or mix of breeds. When designing markings, please remember this is a mostly realistic rp, which means your markings should be realistic. Now, paint markings can indeed make some cool shapes sometimes, but let's contain ourselves to within reason. I do realize that horse eye colors can be a bit limiting though, so you're free to use whatever color you want for your horse's eyes. Please don't go overboard with the multi-colored eyes though. Unless your horse has markings that would account for having two different colored eyes, try to restrain yourself.
Take note that when drawing your horse's application, you may use pre-made line-art and/or commission someone to do it for you. This is because I want people who are less into art to be able to join the rp too. This is the only place you are allowed to do so though, and please make sure that you give credit where it is due.

Personalize your character: Do they have any scars from the past? An accessory or two that came with them? Well go ahead and add them! The horses were brought to Mystery as a way to start a new beginning, but the unicorn who brought them still wants them to remember their past and everything the learned there, and so all reminders will remain with them. Scars, brands, small accessories, and things like that will remain. Please go easy on the accessories though. Don't come in with a saddle on or a cart hooked behind them. That's a bit over the top. Let's stick to small reminders like a collar, a chain, a torn up halter, things like that. Your character may come in with a maximum of three different accessories. Any others you will have to receive here on Mystery through exploration and/or trade.

Put them on the application sheet: This step's pretty easy. Once you've drawn your horse, go ahead and put them on the application sheet provided in the Resources folder in our gallery. Please make sure that you have a profile picture so that we can clearly see the colors and markings of the pretty thing. Than you can color in the mini horse on the application to show us what their markings look like on the other side (if you need it facing the other way, just flip it over). Their name goes in the top arch and basic information on the right. You can then use the circle on the bottom for anything you want, though it was intended for a headshot to help display personality (headshots are not necessary though).

Give them character: This is the fun part (ok, so it's all fun). Now you get to make your horse come to life. Give them a history, a personality, quirks, likes, dislikes, whatever you want to flesh them out. The more detail the better. As a general guideline though, make sure you have at least all of the following (though if you wanna add more, go for it!)

Name: we need to know what to call them
Gender: are they boy, girl, somewhere in between?
Age: are they still an inexperienced teen or a wizened elder? (must be at least 3 years old. Horses will mature at the normal rate of horses [teens at 3, young adult at 5, adult at 10] but they have been blessed with extended lives and can live into their 60's. They won't be considered old until their late 40's. Horses can not be sent into Mystery who are over 30 years though, as they likely wouldn't be alive by then.)
Breed: so are they a complete mutt or a purebred?
Height: how tall is this pony... er, horse?
Color: if you're a technical nerd, you can put their phenotype in too
Personality: you must have at least 6 different traits with at least 200 words total, don't forget to have a balance of negative and positive traits
History: Mystery is a new chapter of their life, but we want to know what happened in the previous chapter too. Go all out into detail. Give us at the very least 500 words telling about their past.

Fill in their stat tracker: You can find the stat tracker in the resources folder of the gallery. You will need to include a headshot (you can just use the head of your reference picture, but remember you won't get ExP for it then) and put their name on the line. Than you can add stats to your character as they earn ExP. Be sure to include a breakdown of their ExP earnings in the artist's comments as proof of their earnings.

And there you have it, you've created your own character to help build the story of Mystery. We look forward to them becoming a new part of the group. When you submit them we will go over the information. If there is anything we find that needs to be changed or corrected we will let you know. Once everything has been worked out we will put them in the proper folder and they will be official.

Transfering old characters: Because of the set-up of Mystery, we have more space and freedom to offer you in creating your characters. In fact there is so much freedom that we are able to allow you to transfer old characters from elsewhere (personal, an old dead rpg, even a stable) and bring them here into Mystery, so long as they do not break any of the rules here (design, breed, bad past, ext). If you have drawn pictures of them, even if they have nothing to do with Mystery, you still get to count them toward your ExP points. We want to give you a chance to bring in any favorite old characters of yours and we would hate for your time and effort to go to waste here. So bring them on in!
