Kamlai has a bold air about her and won’t shy away from a challenge. She speaks well, and can encourage others when they’re down. Unfortunately for herself, sometimes she can overestimate her own capabilities and bite off more she can chew. Despite that, she will continually pursue any venture she sets her mind to. Even if she fails, she’s always ready to try again and again.

Kamlai has a tendency to take things at her own speed, and often procrastinates. She’s a last-minute worker, a crammer. If there’s an easier way to do something, she would work to get others to agree with her so she doesn’t have to go out of her way. However when she does get down to doing something, she will do it with all of her energy and passion.

She can be warm to the people she knows, but she possesses a sharp tongue and the ignorance to say what she wants. She will always say the first thing that comes to mind, even if it’s rather blunt and rude. Kamlai doesn’t seem to care if she leaves a bitter taste in someone else’s mouth - she just needs to get her opinions off her mind. She reacts badly if people react badly to that, or if they don’t seem to understand her.

Small things can annoy her, and she will be very vocal about them as well. Her complaints and moods are often described as childish and petty by her relatives, but to her these tiny things are huge. Given enough time, she will learn to let them go, but it’s a slow process.

History:

Her father, the tattoo artist, her mother, the sage script writer. Both big name designers specialising in creating decorative magical writings for all kinds of things. And they were having yet another child. All the relatives could not wait for what kind of creative genius this one would turn out to be…

But unfortunately Kamlai failed to inherit her parents’ creative streak. When magic and art were so closely tied to the family name, it became hard to just have half the package. She showed equally strong magical potential like her siblings, but failed miserably on the creative side of things. Her parents minded little in the end since they could support her for now. She had all the time in the world to get better, right? Without the need or drive to improve, she let her skills dwindle and eventually slacked off her careers in magic and art altogether. She could still colour between the lines at least, and so spent her days mooching off mum and dad while doing colour work at the family tattoo parlour.

However when the war began in 8291, her parents pushed her to get better in case the battles came onto Estran shores. She was kicked out of home with the intent that she would travel Alva to improve her art skills and summoning abilities. Kamlai spent some months in Cantor and Nisalvini studying the unique brands of magic there, before prematurely deciding she had done enough. Taking minimal books for study with her, she set off north to see the sights. During the following months, her drive to draw and study was spotty at best, and eventually she became more of a tourist instead of a student. She relied on her family's wealth to get around comfortably - for firstly, she was lazy and secondly, no one had any need for a half-rate artist. Her funds dwindled every now and again, but there was nothing a quick flight home could not solve.

Suddenly, allegiance talks were upon Estraude. She came home to visit her parents during the Emerald Masquerade, boasting to her relatives about how good she was now. With the law changes, unfortunately her months in conscription would go to show how little she actually had learned during her year away. Thoroughly unimpressed, her parents pushed her to travel the Empire to learn, but with the growing unrest she managed to weed her way back and worked at the family tattoo parlour for a bit in hopes things would calm down.

In 8294 she managed to land a part scholarship to study at the local Church College, and has been slowly pursuing summoning with some tutelage from Consul Aalok.

She was investigating the Caves of Irana in Estraude when the world ended. She's passed out in there somewhere.

Additional info:

 Blossoming: mossy coloured patches below her eyes and ear tips

 Having grown up in Estraude, she tends to bundle up a lot more than others when in a cold climate.

 Fluent in Common and Estran. She can understand more Altan than she can speak.

 Coming from a rich family, she dislikes dirty places… but will tolerate it.

 She has a mole on the right side of the bridge of her nose, and one on her left shoulder. That one is covered by her tattoo.

Family:

Damar Pusparna (Summoner, 280s)
Father. He met his wife as an apprentice artist at a tattoo parlour in Estraude. He’s an encouraging sort and is fairly patient with people. He still runs the family parlour full time, but is slowly shifting his focus to mentoring the other artists working there.

Lavanya Viswaran (Sage, 250s)
Mother. She met her husband as an apprentice artist at a tattoo parlour in Estraude. In contrast to Kamlai she is pushier and is finally pleased with her daughter’s progress with magic training. Her tattoo designs tend to be meticulously detailed in order to accommodate seals and other magic writings she is commissioned to create at the family parlour.

Arun Pusparna (Exorcist, 90s)
Oldest brother. He is a member of the Circle of the Wreath, and lives near the family home. He is very zen and religious to Therras, quietly accepting the chaos slowly engulfing Alva.

Mani Pusparna (Mage (Summoner-leaning), 80s)
Older sister. She is a bestiary illustrator based in Dirge and is considered the black sheep of the family. She is vain and a workaholic, and had toned down her outspoken nature after having moved to Iadlain. She dotes on Kamlai a lot being the only other daughter out of the five of them.

Ka’en Pusparna (Fighter (Ascetic-leaning), 50s)
Older brother and Kamal’s fraternal twin. He is a jeweller based in Tusa mostly because he can’t get enough of the food there. He’s a brazen and overconfident sort who loves nothing more than to show off. He participates in show fighting from time to time, though this is mostly a secret between the children of the family.

Kamal Pusparna (Knight, 50s)
Older brother and Ka’en’s fraternal twin. He helps Ka’en with his jeweller craft when he’s not busy being a city guard. He is very good at putting on a brave face, when he deep down is a rather anxious sort.

Plane:
The gateway to this plane was first opened by Kamlai’s grandfather. It is a lush land filled with creatures both as ferocious as they are playful. One can never be too careful travelling there, as almost everything in this plane is alive and sentient. It is said that even the land of the plane itself is a titanic familiar that would be impossible to transport into Alva.


Summons
Cahya (Large Grade C Beast)
A red mammalian creature sporting a mane of petals, as well as a shaggy coat filled with blossoms. It most resembles a lion with a short muzzle, with big claws and imposing fangs. In its home world it is a powerful hunter and is fairly common.
Cahya makes an obedient and swift mount now that he has manifested his true form in Alva. As Kamlai’s power grows, so will his physical strength. For now all he can manage is riding and tearing down moderately sturdy objects.

Notable Inventory:

 Summoning tattoos - Currently her first tattoo is complete over her right arm.

Estran Eyeglass - A very thin crystal that the owner can use to study magical objects. When looking through it, the gem reveals fine ether patterns of the magic around an object, providing the opportunity to understand the enchantment if deciphered correctly.

 Light sari - Cloth with light-emitting spells woven into it, a gift from her sister.

 Goldentail plant - Kamlai has a fondness for wearing its flowers in her hair.
