Elycores are otherworldly creatures that are reminiscent of plants. Like their plant counterparts, they are capable of producing and storing energy. They absorb energy by basking in astral light , be it from the sun, the moon, or the stars. They do not need air, water or food to process energy, and thus they can thrive anywhere as long as they are exposed to light. Exploiting this benefit of being able to live anywhere, Elycores travel all across time and space, gathering as much knowledge as they could share.

Elycores are harmless, and very sociable creatures. It is against their nature to inflict harm, and so the energy they store can only be harnessed by healing and restoring someone else’s energy. The easiest way to transfer energy in small amounts is through touch, but larger amounts of energy can be transferred by consuming parts of them. Usually, untrained Elycores transfer their energy by giving a leaf or a fruit, but skilled Elycores can perform healing the same way magical healers do.

Elycores do not expire by age. They are near immortal, have extremely high stamina, and their bodies do not get sick or tired. They continue storing energy until such time they gather enough massive amounts of energy to turn themselves into a star. By then, they leave their habitat and begin travelling to space where they finally sleep for their remaining years, burning brightly as a star.

There are a lot of myths surrounding their creation, but it can be said that the origin of the species is as old as the universe itself. The most popular myth surrounding these creatures is their fabled connection with Paradise. Some smaller ones are superstitious beliefs that forests and communities they find residence in are blessed with flourishing life and luck. While none of these myths are proven true, it is true that the positive energy Elycores possess have immense benefits.

Heart Seed

An Elycore’s energy is concentrated within their heart seed. The heart seed contains all the condensed energy an Elycore would need so someday it would burst into a star. Aside from an energy source, a shard of a heart seed is known to be an ingredient for the Panacea, a miracle elixir that can cure anything.

Habitat and Society:

Elycores prefer to thrive in groups and live in forests. They are very much inclined to interact with other species and have a very close affinity with animals/animal-like creatures. While they prefer forests, they are highly adaptable and can live within urban communities. Those who chose to live away from forests and into societies usually end up as scholars, healers, traders, farmers or something humble and low profile as their chosen profession.

Physiology

Elycores don’t have bones or skeleton to maintain their form. Their flesh is mixed soft and woody. The inside of their flesh resemble an aloe vera’s while woody parts vary in toughness. Native Elycores who live in forests usually have hooved feet and woodier bodies. Elycores who thrive in urban communities adapt to a more humanoid form and usually have softer bodies. While generally Elycores are born with and maintain an androgynous form, humanoid types may grow an inclination to shape their bodies similar to their preferred gender.

Death

The only and biggest threat to their existence are predators who want to consume them or harvest their heart seeds. An Elycore may die if their head or half of their body is consumed or severed from the main body. When an Elycore’s heart seed is removed from their body, their flesh immediately dissipates into black dust.

FAQ:

Q: If Elycores are like plants, do Elycores eat? What’s their mouth for?

A: No, they don’t eat! First of all, it’s not a necessity, and most importantly, they don’t have digestive organs! Their mouths are mainly for facial expressions. Speaking and singing is a highly prized skill among Elycores and only few are capable of doing so. Elycores are usually mute and communicate through telepathy/thought transfer. Generally, they are still capable of expressive sounds (laugh, giggle, wail, moan, etc…)

Q: Can they come in different colors or will they stick to earthy/nature colors?

A: Elycores don’t rely on chlorophyll so they won’t be restricted to only green pigments. Think of them of sentient plant-like aliens so they can take on any color!

Q: Do Elycores bleed?

A: Yes, and their blood is like sap! The color is the same as their tongue and it has viscosity similar to honey. It tastes very bitter though but is a highly potent energy restoration/healing liquid.

Q. Do Elycores with malicious intent exist?

A: If you follow their specie info canon, there would be none for now (I do plan a parasitic type… but not so soon). While they possess huge amounts of energy and potential, they are like walking batteries. They are simply containers of energy and do not have the inborn facility to use such strength to harmful use. However, personality types that are less favorable (grumpy/pessimistic/etc) may persist among Elycores.
