Description
Graphite pencil drawing of Kira on A4 Daler Rowney Airbrush Bristol board.
Pencils: Mars Lumograph (4B, HB, 3H, 5H), Masters B, Faber Castell 9000 (6B, 8B), mechanical pencils 0.3mm/2B, 0.5mm/4B with Pentel Ain Stein leads.
Blending: Blending stump from Royal Langnickel and paper tissues.
Erasing: WH Smith kneadable eraser, Tombow Mono Zero Ultra-fine eraser and Jakar battery electric eraser.
Photo adjustment using GIMP: Removal of barrel distortion; Cropping to A4 ratio and removal of perspective distortion; Cropping unfinished edges of drawing; Adjustment of histogram.
The reference that I used for this drawing was Kira , by kazarinakristina to whom I give my thanks for allowing me to make this drawing from the photo on her 500px account.
Whereas the pose of my previous drawing, Pencil portrait of Alisa was very informal, I was attracted by the formality of this pose and particularly liked the combination of full-face portrait with profile shadow. The main challenges in this drawing were the subtle shading and the relatively small size of the face in the drawing compared to most where I usually go for quite a tight crop around the face.
