Description
"The man for wisdom's various arts renown'd,
Long exercised in woes, O Muse! resound;
Who, when his arms had wrought the destined fall
Of sacred Troy, and razed her heaven-built wall,
Wandering from clime to clime, observant stray'd,
Their manners noted, and their states survey'd,
On stormy seas unnumber'd toils he bore,
Safe with his friends to gain his natal shore:
Vain toils! their impious folly dared to prey
On herds devoted to the god of day;
The god vindictive doom'd them never more
(Ah, men unbless'd!) to touch that natal shore.
Oh, snatch some portion of these acts from fate,
Celestial Muse! and to our world relate."
-Odyssey by Homer translated by Alexander Pope

Calliope is believed to be Homer's muse for the Iliad and the Odyssey. She is the muse who presides over eloquence and epic poetry.

The Nine Muses ChallengeGreetings Artists of the Castle..
I love delving into mythologies and find rich with concept ideas for creating. This month, we're going to illustrate one (or more-your choice) of the nine Muses.
The requirements for this challenge will be to show us art that includes at least one model and include images that show WHY she represents that particular Muse. The idea can be a design type of image OR a scenic one. The model(s) should be the focus in either design or scenic.
these are the Muses below, and a link to a very informative contribution about the Muses from :iconartisticfairy: http://artisticfairy.deviantart.com/art/The-Modern-Day-Muses-203208423
Calliope (epic poetry), Clio (history), Euterpe (flutes and lyric poetry), Thalia (comedy and pastoral poetry), Melpomene (tragedy), Terpsichore (dance), Erato (love poetry), Polyhymnia (sacred poetry), Urania (astronomy)
