Gwen - The Artist
A fresh graduate of art school, Gwen is caught in the purgatorial void between preparing for work and actually working. With depression acting up, she sleeps a lot, and has vivid dreams.

-/+Has depression, but takes meds for it
+Fairly happy and witty, loves making people laugh or smile
-Curses like a sailor, not at people but just in general
+Has a fairly good sense for peoply interactions
+Likes to see the best in people and the bright side of situations
-Easily distracted, startled, or thrown off.

She takes the form of the alien slime symbiote that her OC, Jamie, is physically bonded with - instead of a helpful mostly nonverbal alien artificial intelligence helping him with his powers, he now has that goofy friend that is clumsy and weird backseat driving from inside his head. Because the symbiote is often imbued in Jamie's body (he can, with some work, remove it from himself but this endangers his life because his body has become dependent on it) Gwen can occasionally control Jamie (if he doesn't fight it) and can operate and pilot Dork Star.

She tends to not want to do this a lot, but has the helpful knowledge of kinda knowing sorta what the symbiote allows Jamie to do. Doesn't help that she considers his powers 'work in progress'.

Gwen hasn't told Jamie almost anything about Otherside and their relationship. She may or may not be keeping things that way on purpose.

Jamie - The Character
Jamie is a high schooler of a not terribly distant but very different future; when a meteor shower peppers his state with tiny meteors, he doesn't think a ton of it until a little black slime creature climbs through his window and befriends him. After the tiny slime melts into his body in a kinda weird ass creepy way, Jamie goes about discovering that two superhero vigilantes in his town - Margarita Sunset and Blue Latitude - are also kids his age with similar alien slime symbiotes. He then proceeds to try and join them and get senpai's attention while also keeping himself on the down-low from various elements in town that are kinda interested in the alien goo monsters.
Tho his senpais christen his alter ego Dark Star.

However, once his symbiote is hijacked, things are different - he's no longer 100% in control of what's going on! It's a bit jarring, but at least this weird ass blop that has replaced poor Dark Star seems not evil. For now.

+A naive and kind kid, but kind of afraid of people finding out his weird ooze alien secret.
+He has a well-aligned moral compass and is determined.
-/+ Socially awkward; sometimes just can't bring himself to say what's on his mind.
-/+ Soft-hearted; he's a big ole goober and enjoys people and laughter.
-Completely, absolutely inexperienced at fighting. He was working on watching video tutorials and getting his slime AI to learn fighting moves, but now that his AI has been replaced by another person('s ghost??) he is barely a beginner again.
-Tiny. He's a small kid. He can get punched really easily. Bless his heart.

Dork Star - The Hero

A bastardization on the 'hero name' Jamie's superpowered peers gave him, Dork Star is one half Jamie one half Gwen. While Gwen mostly backseats things, she'll sometimes yoink Jamie out of trouble - or worse, the opposite, freeze up while in danger, preventing a timely dodge. As of yet, the two aren't in sync and sometimes Dork Star acts very erratically. Neither of them have seen Pacific Rim. They are in for a bad time.

Dork Star is a humanoid covered in an opaque layer of what appears to be slime or ooze. They can stretch and contort their body in a non-human-like fashion, stick to walls (haha piderman), bounce back easily from long falls or blunt impacts, and can exert more force than one would imagine coming from something so small. (Think like a very compact bodybuilder - can't throw cars but sure can arm wrestle.) They don't have any special resistance to bullets, knives, or traditional weapons of the like (though recovering from crushing or smacking blows is easier for them) and they have no weapons besides their body. Dork Star cannot change shape, just exaggerate their normal one, and gravity affects them just like it affects anyone else.

They are not only a baby superhero, they are a baby superhero with an easily sidetracked/excitable artist on board.

So, about the name "Dork Star"..

I get it's a pun on "Dark Star", but this begs the question "what Dark Star?"

The John Carpenter/Dan O'Bannon 1974 cult classic? The conspiracy theory Dark Star a.k.a. Nemesis, Nibiru, Wormwood, Hercolobus, The Destroyer, etc.? My original story and second installment of my magnum opus, the Planet X Trilogy? (the second installment is called "The Dark Star")
