Reikai

The Reikai are perhaps the most religiously spiritual out of all the tribes of Inaria. Strict to laws they are deeply respectful of the land and Spirits around them.

The Reikai are fierce protectors of nature and the forest that is their home. As a result of this humans have made little if any headway in obtaining land into their territory. At the moment there is a kind of silent peace treaty between the humans and this tribe. The Reikai do not hunt in or enter any settlements and for now, the humans have abandoned attempts to settle further into the Reikai's land. How long this will last no one knows.
Cursed Bloods, or Tainted, are looked on by the Reikai as nothing but the result of foolish lust and deep disloyalty. For a tainted to be born within their tribe is either a hushed affair or a public display of humiliation, as they view it as the birth of a disease, what will inevitably be their mortal enemy.
Because the Elysia are their enemies, the Reikai have an influence in ensuring that other tribes enforce the law of breeding only within their tribe. Interaction between other tribes become bitter very quickly if discovered that they have had a large number of Tainted born in a season.

Birth into the Tribe:

As the majority of the tribe's dens exist up in hollows high in the canopy, tree sprites and spirits are a constant. It is said in the tribe, that luck and blessings will abound in your cubs life the more tree spirits gather in the hallow after their birth. It is considered very unlucky if no tree spirits appear after the cubs arrival, and some believe it is a sign that the cub will grow to be distanced from nature and the forest around them.

Becoming a Rook:

When a cub has reach 6 months old they must journey to the Elder Tree, the largest tree in the forest who's roots stretch to the farthest reaches of the Reikai territory. Once they have completed the journey to the top of the tree they will be greeted by the Shaman, along with many of the tribe members. The cub chooses then which position they wish to be mentored in, however the assigned mentor, whether he/she be scout, hunter, or guard, may refuse to teach them if they wish. When this happens another may step forward and offer to mentor the cub.

Celebrations and Holidays

Zenbali

- Zenbali (Zen-ball-lee) is a day the Renkai have set aside for the honoring of those that have passed on. Preparations for the day start in the wee hours of the morning with hunters heading out in search of prey, preferably white or albino prey as these are seen to be closer to the world of those gone before. While the hunters are away, the scouts gather wood, sweet grasses, and other fragrant items that they deposits on the RenKai's Hallowed ground (the burial ground). The wood and fragrant items are divided into small pires that will later on be lit. All the while the apprentices and cubs are busy helping the den keepers to decorate the hallowed ground with wildflowers, paints, and other items the cats have created. Once the hunters have returned, the entire tribe begins to clean up the hallowed ground, ensuring that the souls of those passed on have a comfortable resting place. Once completely tidied up, the fires are lit in hopes of lighting the way for lost spirits and the festival can begin. Dancing, singing and competitive games are all included with winners receiving special tokens of their ranking. The night ends around two in the morning when the land god appears and blesses the hallowed ground before once again disappearing back into the forest.

Daily Life

Mates and Cubs:

While arranged marriages are common in the Reikai tribe, it is highly encouraged when two members choose to be united. When two wish to be mates, the male approaches first the father, or father figure of the female, and asks for his blessing. If given the father of the bride announces the pairing to the tribe at the weekly feast. The ceremony is held beneath the Elder tree where the Shaman unites the pair with a blessing for prosperity from the Land God.

Mild Curses:

These kinds of curses are surprisingly not discouraged in the Reikai tribe. Though an adult would never be caught dead with a mild curse it is not unusual for the Rooks to run around with their mild curses, such as bunny tails or a flower growing out of their head showing for all to see. The parents feel that mild curses are a valuable learning experience for the Rooks, to teach them why it is important to respect the spirits and the gods and connects them to the energy of the forest better.

Intense Curses:

A Reikai member would be deeply ashamed to have received an Intense curse. As they have always prided themselves in being the most connected to the forest out of every tribe, to return home with an Black Curse as they call it alienates individuals from their family. Those cursed with Black Curses choose to stay away from friends and loved ones, as they fear the curse spreading like a sickness. Instead the Shaman will send them on a journey to relieve themselves of the curse. Only then can their name be spoken of again within the tribe.

Causes for Banishment:

Mating with an outside tribe is worthy of banishment in the Reikai tribe. You take your tainted cub to the Elysia border yourself. If the Elysians do not accept you, you will be forced to roam along the borders of the tribe alone.

As well you will be banished for assisting Tainted in any way to cross into the territory, and will be treated like a traitor.

Local Gods and Landscape

-The Reikai Territory consists almost entirely of an ancient forest. The trees here easy reach over a hundred feet and they almost never seem to stop growing. The plant life here is exotic and beautiful. Plants flourish here that cannot grow anywhere else in Inaria. The Reikai territory also holds the largest population of gods and spirits out of all the territories-
