There used to be a journal like this that I linked EVERYONE to (and used myself) but the original owner deactivated, so here is a list of all I can remember crashing mmd

1. Uneeded physics, bones, or joints. Too many physics and joints in particular can make mmd lag, or crash altogether. To delete them, simply select, and press "delete" on your keyboard

2. Unanchored joints. In the joints tab, both box A and box B should have the name of two physics, if one is blank, this is a guaranteed crash as soon as you turn the physics on.
In box A, the physic should be what the physic attached to the joint follows. So lets say we were rigging a ponytail. You would place a joint where the first bone of the ponytail starts, box A would have the "head" physic. Box B would have the first ponytail physic. (for the sake of this lets call it "hair1") The second joint would have "hair1" in Box A and "hair2" in box B, and so on and so forth.

3. Invisible vertecies. I always forget about these fuckers. Here's a great tutorial on how to remove them and help your model run smoother

Obediently-Otsoko also mentioned the following!
"A useful way of checking for what could be wrong is (in PMX editor), go to File -> State Verification of PMX State
It'll run a check-list type thing and tell you if it finds any errors with your model.
If it's in Japanese, just drop the line that says "Bad!" in Google Translate and bam, you know how to fix your models issues. :v"

If there's anything I've forgotten, please leave a comment.
