Literature Text

The next day, school didn’t turn out to help you forget about Light. You knew he would be there, but you half expected to him to ignore you, like every other time you two saw each other before the previous night. To your surprise, he attempted to stay with you throughout the whole school day whenever he could. He didn’t maintain his usual appearance which seemed odd to both you and your peers.

You had tried to hope that what happened the night before was some kind of joke, a hoax to mess with you. Or, at the very least, just a stupid nightmare. But by Light’s new possessive behaviors, any feeble hope was gone.

After school came to an end, Light walked with you outside, insisting to, once again, walk hand-in-hand. You knew by now that arguing would result in worse things, you were just wondering how you would be able to explain this to your friends without angering Light.

“How was your day today, (F/N)?” Light asked you as the two of you continued to walk away from the school. You had a feeling that Light would be walking you home again, you only wished that it would be quick.

“Good,” you answered, attempting to keep conversation short.

“I want you to meet me at the park tonight at midnight. We barely get to spend any alone time during the day, tonight we’ll be able to grow even more closer.”

You wanted to argue, but you knew anything you said would be ignored. Until you figured out how to get out of this mess, you were stuck following what Light said.

“Hey, (F/N)!” your friend called from a few feet behind you. You spun around, smiling when you saw him. At least he was one friendly face among this whole mess.

He motioned for you to come over to him so without thinking, you pulled away from Light and ran over to your friend to be engulfed in a hug. You turned around, pulling your friend with you. The last thing you saw before walking a different way was a terrifyingly angry look on Light’s face. You’ll just have to deal with the consequences later, but for now, you finally had a friend to talk to for the first time that day.

The two of you walked to the abandoned part of town, your favorite place to just relax and talk. It was a spot that only the two of you knew of so it was a great place to visit to just escape the world.

“What’s with you and Light. Are you two a thing…?” your friend asked warily. You looked up at him and shocked. You knew Light’s new behaviors to you were suspicious to others but you didn’t expect to be asked questions about it. You didn’t know how to answer it without angering Light even further.

“W-what? Of course we aren’t! He’s just one of those clingy guys who can’t take no for an answer,” you said, being partially true about it.

“Oh. Well that’s good to hear, especially since I wanted to ask you this; would you wanna go out with me sometime this week…?”

You were speechless, you never expected him to ask you that nor did you think he liked you like that. You knew in your head what you wanted to say but the words just wouldn’t come out.

“I know it’s a bit sudden, but….” he cut off. You looked up at him, waiting for him to finish but he never did. His eyes grew wide and he brought his hands up to clutch his heart. You knew you were being forced to live through what happened last night, but instead of it being your attacker who died, it was your best friend.

“No!” you screamed, trying to run over to him. Strong arms grabbed you from behind, keeping you in place.

“Shhhh, shhhh. Don’t cry, (F/N). He was merely an inconvenience,” Light whispered in your ear.

“I never told him anything about you!” you shouted, spinning around to face Light. “You said you would kill my friends if I tell them! You’re such a liar, I hate you!”

By then, you had lost all sense of thought. You raised your fist in an attempt to punch him but he easily grabbed both of your wrists and pushed you against a wall with more strength than you expected from him.

“I killed him because he tried to take you away from me. You’re mine and mine only. I won’t let anyone take you away from me.” You couldn’t help but cry even harder. You wanted- no, needed- to get out of this mess but you had no idea how.

With you still pinned against the wall by him, he passionately kissed you. There was nowhere you could move to get away so you were forced to endure it. When he finally pulled away, he smiled brightly at you.

“I’ll see you tonight at midnight,” he said.

You merely nodded, walking away to head back home. Light didn’t follow you this time which you were thankful for, but his next words scared you even more than you were already.

“Don’t think about not showing up tonight, (F/N),” he said. “I won’t know who you’re ditching me for, so…. I’ll just have to kill them all.”

You collapsed on the couch in your living room and cried. You had already called your parents when you got home and after receiving no response, you assumed they were out allowing you to freely let your emotions out without having to be asked questions that you knew you wouldn’t be able to answer.

You had no idea how to handle the situation with Light. Being around him was dangerous- for both you and your loved ones. You needed him out of your life but you had no idea how to do that. Calling the police would be pointless; Kira has outsmarted and killed police officers once before, he’d do it again. If that happened, he’d know it was you and kill every single one of your loved ones. The only way to get out of this mess was to take care of it yourself.

Brushing your tears away, you pushed yourself off from the couch and walked into the garage where your father kept his gun safe. In only a couple of attempts you had already guessed the passcode and the safe door was open. You carefully reached inside and pulled out a pistol. You fumbled with a box of ammo, trying to figure out how to load them in the gun. After the gun was loaded, you switched the safety on and shoved the gun in the waistband of your jeans.

It was small and easy to conceal so Light wouldn’t have the chance to kill your loved ones by the time he realized you had the gun. It was perfect- it had to work. Light wouldn’t be able to stop you, you’d finally be free.

Your body shook throughout the walk to the park after thinking over your plan. Were you really capable of killing a human being even if it meant protecting yourself and the people you loved? Would that make you just as bad as Kira? Your mind kept telling you to go through with your plan, but you were afraid that when the moment came to pull the trigger, your body wouldn’t cooperate. You still needed try, though. It was your only chance.

You arrived at the park just as midnight arrived. The only person there was Light who looked especially happy to see you. That would change soon enough.

“I’m so glad you’re here, (F/N),” he said. You scowled at him in response. You weren’t here on your own free will and he knew that. He just wanted to ignore that fact.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, seeing your scowl. He began to walk closer to you but you backed away from him.

“I don’t want to be around you, Light,” you told him, hoping that maybe you could end this without resorting to killing. He merely laughed.

“Of course you want to be around me. I love you so much and you love me.”

“No, I don’t. I hate you so much, you’re a murderer who’s already hurt me. I don’t want you near me,” you told him, surprised that you were able to keep your voice steady despite how scared you were.

“You don’t mean that. We were destined to be together- to rule together! You’d make a beautiful goddess, and I’ll make sure that happens.”

By this point, you had already realized that there was no changing him. No matter how much you hated it, you had no choice but to resort to death. You quickly pulled the gun out of your waistband and aimed it at him. He looked shocked at first, but it quickly changed to anger.

“Why, (F/N)? I’ve done so much to make sure that you’d be a part of the new world. It took me weeks to plan how to tell you about me, to have that low-life criminal attack you right before his rightful death to show you my power and to make you my goddess! You can’t kill me!”

You were shocked once his words registered in your brain.

“You made that criminal attack me just for this!” you shouted, angered by the things he would do just to get what he wants.

“I made sure he didn’t attack you. I’d never let anyone harm you because I love you. That’s why I need you to always be here with me. Put the gun down and I’ll make it so that we’ll always be together.”

“I never want to be with you. My friends and family are more important than you’ll ever be,” you growled.

He started breaking into hysterical fits of laughter. “I knew it!” he laughed manically. “I knew those awful people you surround yourself with would poison your mind. That’s exactly why I killed them all. I’m all you have left, just like you ever wanted.”

You remembered how your parents failed to answer when you called their names at home…. They weren’t out, they were dead along with all your friends…. As tears started to pour down your face, you turned the gun safety off with a trembling hand and re-aimed the gun on Light.

“You can’t kill me! I’m all you have left! I’m the only one left who loves you, who will take care of you. With me, you can have everything you ever wanted. We can rule the new world together!”

“All I want is my freedom,” you whispered before bringing the gun up to your temple and pulling the trigger. Light screamed and ran over to your collapsed body, hoping desperately to find a way to save you. But it was too late.

    You were free.

The ending took a dark turn.... I guess that's expected with Yanderes. I hope everyone enjoyed!
