WRITTEN TEST

A single streak of blue sky between the dense clouds above Andalusst City marks the start of an unpredictable morning, and it seems like rain or shine could develop at a whim. The assorted traders and pedestrians mulling about seem to be a little wary, trying to park their stalls and carts in shaded areas or making efforts to keep their dry produce hidden away for now.

While the Explorers Guild Hall isn't exactly the most eye-catching building, it still had a somewhat homely feel to it, even though Sunny had only just finished registering. The Explorers seemed to have a certain unmistakable aura to them, though one in particular happened to meet her gaze.

The Servine that was leaning against a nearby wall inclined her narrow snout toward Sunny and gave a little nod, her bright eyes were briefly visible under the shadow of her hat.

"Hey... New, are you?" She spoke with a hint of caution, but her tone is otherwise welcoming. "Hmm, stupid question. 'Course you are, I saw you sign in. Admittedly I'm not great with this meet and greet stuff, so how about exchanging names to start things off? You first."

“Sunny,” Sunny said. “Don’t wear it out.” Sunny fold her arms, trying her best to make a good impression, not for the sake of making friends, but more so for the sake of not having pokemon on her case when she gets to work.

Upon receiving this response, she relaxed a little, folding her small arms across her chest. "Ahh, that's great. Yeah, when you said your name just then, it had that... that "zing". It means you're serious about this, yeah? As for me, my name's Teresa. I'm what you'd call a Guild Assistant, which makes me your Serperior."

Sunny made an awkward quiet chuckle, but refused to make any further attempt to sound amused.

She stares at you with a blank face for a moment, then giggles quietly. "You know, you don't have to be so polite. I don't really care about rank and file, but I do care about honesty. If I tell a joke and it sucks, feel free to roll your eyes."

“You’re worried about honesty huh? Then let me speak my mind for a second. What kind of poor excuse of comedy is that? You get that thing out of a pun book you found on the ground?” Sunny says with huge emphasis on sarcasm. “Look in the end, I came here to work alright? I don’t have time for bad jokes or anything like that.”

So much for making a good first impression.

Teresa is taken aback by the sudden influx of hostility, and takes a few visible steps back. “Aren’t you just a ray of sunshine?”

“Thanks, I get that a lot.” Sunny says, unfazed. “You're here for questioning or whatever right? Let’s hurry it up okay?”

“You can at least stand to be a bit more polite, don't you think?” Teresa says, folding her arms.

“I know I can, but I won’t.” Sunny says. “Look can we get a move on here?”

Teresa extends a vine for Sunny to shake, trying her best not to become toxic because of this little brat. “Alright, as you say.” Sunny looks at the vine for a bit, and reluctantly shakes it. “Where you from then? What brings you here?”

“None of your business I’m afraid.” Sunny says.

“Oh but it is my business, unless you're fine with not joining the Explorer’s Guild at all?”

Sunny’s calm disposition finally fell, and she begrudgingly spits out her answer with a bit of venom in her voice. “I ran away from my orphanage and ended up here, next question.”

“Hold on there, you haven’t answered the whole question yet, I asked, ‘what brings you here?’”

Sunny grit her teeth. “I came here to work.”

“That all?” Teresa asked.

“Of course.” Sunny said, putting on her best smile.

Teresa has her own suspicions about why else Sunny could be here, but didn’t push the topic.

Teresa nods and withdraws her vine. "Well, that’s enough for me right now, despite your bad attitude. Whatever the case, you've got a name in mind for your group, right? I didn't get a chance to check your papers, but I do want to get more familiar with our rookie members when I have the time.”

“Wolf.” Sunny says.

Teresa raises her eyebrows. “That it?”

“Of course, you want me to make it longer or something?”

“Well, it’s not that, it’s just…” Teresa took a little bit of time to find the right words. “Don’t you think it sounds a bit aggressive?”

“No, to me it sounds independent, something strong alone.” Sunny folded her arms. “Thought it would be fitting since I always do things solo.”

A smile creeps over her narrow features when she hears the given name of your team. "Hey, that’s actually a pretty clever name. I guess Cassidy wasn't exaggerating when he said the standouts just keep pouring in. A word of advice though, just don't get cocky - confidence is good, but overconfidence in a dungeon is a quick way to get yourself in trouble, along with everyone else in your party."

Sunny stared at Teresa blankly.

“Ah, that’s right, you're a solo team. You should get a partner, or at least team up with another team.” Teresa said, sighing. “Not having someone watch your back makes the job a lot harder.”

“I disagree, teammates only get in the way, and contribute nothing.” Sunny said. “How many times do I have to hammer that concept into your head?”

“Hmph.” Teresa said, hiding her face behind her hat. “Just trying to help you is all.”

“Why? You don’t have any obligation to me, there’s no reason to help me.”

“That’s where you're wrong again Sunny. As Guild Assistant, I have an obligation to all rookies.” Teresa poked Sunny with a vine on the forehead. “That means you.”

Sunny slapped the vine away with an excessive amount of force. “Whatever, next question.”

“Actually, I’m going back to an old question.” Teresa paused a second and leaned down toward Sunny. “Why. are. you. here?” She said slowly, in an incredibly serious tone.

Sunny took a few steps back, surprised by this sudden change of demeanor. “N-none of your business!”

Teresa backed up a bit, hiding her face with her hat. “Of course it is, wouldn’t want anybody with malicious intent running around, would I?”

Sunny grit her teeth. “Fine, I’ll tell you the real reason. But no one else is allowed to know, okay?”

Teresa nodded. “You have my word.”

Sunny, looked down, a bit embarrassed telling anybody about one of her real motives. Sunny did nothing but outstretched her arm for Teresa to see.

“Huh? What’s with this little thing?” Teresa asked, looking at the faded red armband.

“Look, this thing is really important, but I have a feeling that whoever made it is much more important.” Sunny said, eyes not coming off the ground.

“Ah, you looking for a long lost friend?” Teresa’s face poked out from underneath her face as she suddenly gained a sudden understanding of the situation. “Your only friend huh?”

“Look, not even I know, I just feel compelled to find who made it.” Sunny whispered. “Just don’t tell anyone okay? I’ve never had to tell anyone about this.”

“Alright, alright, my lips are sealed.” Teresa said, softening up a bit on Sunny. “A few more questions and we can move onto what room you're staying in.”

Sunny shook her head rapidly, as if to shake herself out of a daze. “Alright, go ahead.”

“So, what are you good at, anything separate you from a crowd skill wise?”

“Nothing at all really.” Sunny said.

“You’re kidding, right?” Teresa replied, a surprised look on her face.

“Well, I know how to use fire pledge, and no, the irony is not lost to me.” Sunny said with an uninterested tone. “If you can even call it a skill, I guess I’m good at taking care of myself. Street life isn’t going to do me in, unlike other more privileged pokemon.”

“You also seem to be the more independent kind huh?” Teresa offered.

“Yeah, I guess.” Sunny said, rubbing the back of her neck. “Anyway, does that about wrap things up or what? Kinda didn't get much sleep last night.”

“Just one more question, and this one isn’t for the record Sunny.” Teresa said.

“Alright, shoot.”

“Do you see me as a friend?” Teresa asked, tilting her head a bit.

“Huh?” Sunny took a few steps back. “Where’d this come from?”

“Do you see me as a friend?” Teresa repeated firmly.

Sunny’s eyes went elsewhere for a bit, avoiding Teresa. “No, you’re just my superior.” Sunny said firmly.

Teresa stared at Sunny for a few seconds. “Why do you push people away like that?”

“Huh?”

Teresa sighed. “Nothing.” Teresa knew how pokemon like her would react, they would play the dumb game for the rest of their lives if they could. “Anyways, that’s all I need to know for now, you can go get assigned a room over there.” Teresa pointed to a booth where pokemon were lined up to get assigned rooms. “I got more rookies to take care of.” Teresa said, walking toward a group of pokemon who were idly chatting at the moment. “But listen to this Sunny, if nothing else. I hope you find who and what you're looking for.”

And with that remark, Teresa turned around and ran off.

“She hopes I’ll find who I’m looking for?” But not even Sunny knew what she was trying to find.

What was she trying to find? What was she accomplishing from running away?

What was she really after?
My second PMDU team. This time, it will be a solo Explorer's team.
