Personality:
With a cheerfully playful mask, Tsuneo has mastered the art of acting like a total ditz. In truth, he's quick-witted and well learned, sensitive enough to others to adjust his personality when he needs to please someone. If he's not actively trying to cater to anyone in particular, however, Tsuneo is a flirtatious and upbeat  individual with a somewhat hedonistic attitude to life. Nonetheless, he's protective of his ingroup and has a tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve around people he's deemed safe.

On another note, Tsuneo's actually quite an attention seeker. Fortunately, for him it's the quality of the attention he seeks rather than the quantity, and it's not uncommon to find him tailing around people whose attention he desires. In this sense, he's tenacious and stubborn, but on the flip side, he's a very loyal friend.

All in all, Tsuneo is a very warm person with the energy to back it up. He's the kind of person people would love to drink and party with-- loud, energetic and eager to try new things. All of this is to hide the fact that he's rather weak-willed when it comes to his own matters, the kind of person who would play victim and pity himself than to take decisive action to better his own position. His greatest downfall is his fixation with his own weaknesses and being ruled by violently turbulent emotions in private, tending to resign himself to routine rather than to upset the order to achieve happiness.

History:
The result of two servants being blessed for marriage by their lord, Tsuneo was born to a rather loving couple who wanted the best for their son. The first five years of his life were pleasant, with attentive parents and steady food on the table, though they were otherwise poor and lacked the lavishness of the family they tended to. In truth, his mother suffered from postpartum depression almost as soon as he was born, and while Tsuneo's father did his best to make up for her, it didn't last long before things started to fall apart.

On his sixth birthday, Tsuneo was taken from home without his father's knowledge. His mother, succumbing to fear and the pressure of not being able to give her son all that he would want, had decided to send him elsewhere instead. She took him to be trained as an oiran, selling him to the teahouse not for the money but with hopes that he had the opportunity to learn more than she or her husband could provide by themselves. She'd heard good things of the entertainers and their education, and she'd hoped unreasonably that Tsuneo could become someone well-learned even at the expense of his reputation.

For the next several years, Tsuneo endured the training it took to earn his ranks. Thankfully, his personality and interests catered well to the arts and entertainment, and his dream of being someone well respected such as a general or a scholar meant he soon cultivated the discipline to take his studies much further than provided. Ironically, his desire to be honored ended up solidifying his position at the teahouse, as he could entertain a wide range of customers with deep conversation just as well as he could entertain those who only wanted visual or musical company. Eventually, he became sought after enough that he had the option to choose his customers, and for a while Tsuneo focused on picking clients who could offer him more knowledge.

In the summer of his nineteenth year, a traveling lord requested for him, having heard that Tsuneo liked to be told stories from beyond Gale Spring's territory. It didn't take long for Tsuneo to fall seriously in love-- both with the man and the idea of being taken away. The lord had offered to buy him after he'd had his matters settled in Gale Spring, which would likely be just before Tsuneo's twenty third birthday in the spring. Enthusiastically, Tsuneo agreed.

The three month wait until spring was torturous, but that pain would feel nothing like the year which followed without word. Fear and worry marked the days as each season turned when the lord didn't keep to his promise. He had disappeared, and Tsuneo could do nothing but wait.

It would be four whole years before he heard from the lord again. Rather, it would be four whole years before Tsuneo saw the lord again-- when he was passing by the room of another oiran. The implication was clear, and he was too afraid of the truth to go confront it.

Retiring back to his room, the rest of the years passed him by without much feeling. He took to his pipe more and more frequently, accepting as many clients as he had waking hours until he dropped from exhaustion and repeated until the feeling of betrayal was sufficiently dulled enough to bear. By his twenty seventh year, he was numb and listless, lacking much enthusiasm for life and  defying that ironically by pretending to be better than ever in company. The loneliness which ate away at his heart was pacified-- or at least redirected-- by physical touch and copious amounts of alcohol.

Additional info:
- He actually only has fond feelings towards his parents but has no solid memory of them.
- He remembers being poor, so he assumed he was sold for that reason. As far as Tsuneo's concerned, it's fine if the money helped at all.
- He's actually very easily jealous and possessive, as well as insanely insecure. His greatest fear is being left alone.
- His daggers can change into whips depending on what he's using as the blades. Sometimes he'll use ice for a sharp edge or a train of water for a whip end.
- He's actually not much of a fighter but he's slowly learning
- That cloak ain't his.
