Short Description:
A failed experiment that wants nothing more than to have the normal life he knows he can’t reclaim.

Profile:
Afraid of just about everything, including himself, Aves would like nothing more than to stay securely locked in a room at all times. As that is not possible without starving to death, he follows Matoro on his travels instead, doing his best to stay unnoticed by those they encounter.
He doesn’t like his wings, as they are a blatant reminder of his past, but he has also accepted that he can’t get rid of them. He usually keeps them tightly folded and wears a large cape and hood to hide them.

Background:
Aves was the fourth child to a family living in the slums of Lighthalzen. He grew up mostly without a father, knowing only that the man had disappeared when he was still too young to remember, and his elder siblings frequently reminded him of how he was just another mouth to feed. Undeterred, he helped his mother around the house however he could, his main task being to tend to the small patch of garden behind their house.
He had a few friends among the other boys living in the slums and played together with them when he wasn’t busy. He and his group of friends were approached by strangers one afternoon, claiming to be from the nicer part of town and offering them jobs with some place called Rekenber. Eager to prove to his family that he could help support them, Aves accepted the offer on the spot; several of his friends followed suit. None of them were ever seen in the slums again.
Aves escaped alone years later, a fractured shell of his former self. An experiment to create super-soldiers capable of flight had failed, leaving him with a pair of small wings on his back. Less visibly, he had also acquired multiple personalities, offshoots of himself that had splintered off and grown more distinct by their isolation. Scared of being recaptured, and equally afraid of what he had become, Aves fled Lighthalzen, scavenging just enough food to survive from the surrounding fields and spending most of his time in hiding.
He was eventually found, completely by chance, by a foreigner dressed all in white, his peculiar clothes marking him as an adventurer. The stranger didn’t pursue him when he ran away, but a few days later Aves saw him again near his new hiding place, bringing more substantial food and better clothing. Gradually, as weeks then months passed, the silent, pale man finally won Aves’s tentative trust.
Introducing himself as Matoro, the adventurer brought Aves with him when he left Lighthalzen to resume his travels. He never asked why the boy had wings, or why he had been struggling to live by himself outside of the nearest city. Whenever Aves was woken by nightmares, Matoro quietly sat next to him until he calmed enough to sleep again. Aves quickly grew attached to the Assassin and resolved to continue traveling with him, clinging to the vague sense of normalcy that their acquaintance gave him.

Personality:
- Extremely shy, to the point of being terrified by strangers and fleeing from them if possible
- Very sensitive about his wings and keeps them hidden as often as possible
- Automatically suspicious of other people unless otherwise assured by Matoro of their trustworthiness
- His original personality retains his own name and is dominant most of the time. His other personalities manifest under specific conditions or at random. They are, in decreasing order of relative strength:
Lanius: bloodthirsty and sadistic. Aves’s main source of self-defense and appears when he is physically injured
Zenaida: acts completely on a whim, wildly unpredictable
Melopsittacus: utterly obedient and eager to please. The only order he won’t follow is to harm himself. Appears when given any forceful command

Nyctea: indifferent and apathetic
Sayornis: easily distracted, always cheerful, strangely talented at forging handwriting
Corvus: belligerent with words, much less so with actions
Archilochus: pacifistic and timid, no fighting ability whatsoever. Appears when exposed to scenes of violence not caused by himself
- All personalities revert to Aves after at least five minutes and at most an hour, with exact duration varying randomly. Knocking him out also resets him to Aves when he wakes up
- None of the eight personalities have any recollection of what happens when any of the others are dominant. They also cannot communicate with one another

Relationships:
- Aaryan: An old friend that he first met in the slums, though he suddenly disappeared a few years before Aves was taken to Rekenber
- Pia: A fellow kid of the slums. Once gifted her a feather and received a rock in return that he treasured but has since lost
- Matoro: His main caretaker and protector. Aves relies rather heavily on Matoro for emotional support, somewhat ironically considering how emotionless the man usually appears to be
- Jin: A young fellow Ninja that he, as Sayornis, helped to pass the advancement test, an event Aves himself doesn’t remember

Trivia:
- Most of the bones in his four limbs, as well as all bones in his wings, are partially hollow to varying degrees. While this makes him noticeably lighter than one would expect, it is also that much easier for him to break an arm or leg
- In direct conflict with this, he has a build based on Final Strike. Predictably, he can’t use it more than once every few days
- Doesn’t engage in combat at all unless absolutely necessary and relies mostly on projectile weapons
- His reduced weight makes it slightly easier for him to move quickly and change directions suddenly, whether willingly or not
- Has a particular fondness for milk and plain white bread but will eat anything he’s given
- Almost completely illiterate, knowing only how to write his own name. His other personalities draw unique symbols instead of their names
