Description
Oncoming storm
There is an oncoming storm
It's presence disturbed my safe sleep
I heard its withered breathing in the dreamy distance
I saw the faint light flicker over my closed eyes
And now...
Its growling can be heard
over the beating of the rain
on the pavements below my window
where late-night figures are hastening home
to whatever world they belong
And now...
It's discordant cackling can be felt
in my head
a painful pressure
the thrumming of an unnatural rhythm
and again that flickering
that hypnotic flickering
that fools my senses into believing
it is in the room with me
And now...
I hear the wailing of a neighbouring cat
who missed the curfew
resigned
that it’s too late
to find sanctuary
A photograph has been taken of my staring eyes
that are opened in surprise
by the sudden bright flash
A look of fear
caught in time
And now...
All I see are white veins
The rumbling isn't going away
I count the seconds between sight and sound
it's closer
louder
brighter
and it scares my childhood memories
I hear the wailing of my neighbour
I have only ever known her voice
she sometimes speaks
in small staccato screams
through the wall
but now...
the pitch has risen
and the noise persistent
I put my hands over my ears
But a sudden crash
Makes me think that the thunder has broken through her wall
I have opened the curtains and the blind and the window
If the storm is going to take me too
I will meet it head on
I am afraid no longer
I am looking out on a monochrome world
There is something very wrong there
That the storm has only just now revealed
----------
Tis the season one and all
A poem by my magnificent friend
This image was conjured up from it
Happy HALLOWEEN
Please, have nightmares
