Below is a list of some wonderful free content that can really help you create some great art without sucking the life out of your poor, beleaguered pocketbook. Most of these are exclusively for use in Daz Studio.

Great Art Now video series

Even if you use Poser or other software besides Daz Studio to create digital art you should have a look at this video series.  These instructional videos pick up where the Daz Studio tutorials leave off. Val Cameron will take you through the basics of concepts such as composition, three-point lighting, postwork, and more. One of the easiest ways to find them (and lots of other free content) is to go to the Daz web site (www.daz3d.com), click on SHOP, then sort the entries by price from lowest to highest. All the free stuff is then listed on the first two to three pages of results, including these videos.

DieTrying's 182 Morphs for Genesis 2 Female/Male

These free morphs allow you to give any Genesis 2 figure a unique appearance, changing facial and body features in a number of ways… well, 182 of 'em, to be precise. They play nicely with the more granular sets of morphs you can buy from the Daz store. (But you may still need those purchased morphs to make other content work—always read the fine print!) My own favourite dial is "Face: Cruel" which I use to give my villains' appearance that extra hint of menace. While these morphs were developed originally for Victoria 4 by DieTrying, it's SickleYield, one of the best content creators out there, who generously ported them to Genesis and Genesis 2.

MakeHuman v1.1.0 Hair for Genesis 1

You'll probably end up buying a lot of hair props for your primary figures, but for secondary/background figures these freebies work great. No fancy style or positioning morphs, but for that anonymous guy or gal standing or sitting in the background they'll suffice. And they will work on G2 and G3 as well with minimal adjustments. These hair props are the work of Ghastly, another great content creator. He creates a lot of tongue-in-cheek but still useful outfits that are readily available at ShareCG.

Gift Outfit for Victoria 5 (Genesis)

With a little futzing this outfit will also work on Genesis 2 and 3 figures. The dress is nice but my favourite item is the short, open-front bolero jacket. Apply your favourite shader to it and it looks great on any female figure.

Expression Builder for G2F

A very useful tool from another of my favourite content creators, SquarePeg3D. Mix and match eye, eyebrow, and mouth positions (which are combined with subtle cheek, nose, jaw, and other movements) to create vivid facial expressions so your viewers know exactly how your character is feeling.

iRay Studio Lights V2

These lights are amazing. Use them to emulate a photographer's studio and create incredibly realistic portraits of your favourite figures. Turn on only 1, 2, or maximum 3 of the lights. The rim and side lights in particular can be used to create extremely dramatic portrait lighting. Loads of fun to work with and they yield gorgeous results.

Morphing Flame for iRay

Need a flame for a torch? For a medieval or Halloween wall sconce? For a cigarette lighter? A candle? A brazier? This is your go-to prop. It generates its own moody yellow-orange light to add realism and drama to the scene. Plus you can scale it and adjust its morphs to give it an even more realistic flickering-flame look. Don't bother futzing around with coloured lights anymore; just load, position, and adjust this incredibly useful prop and render away.

Basic Pumps for Genesis 2/3 Female(s)

Footwear. Argh! Of all the clothing items footwear almost never works on a different generation of figures. For G2 and G3 these simple pumps offer an elegant solution. They even include a foot pose. If you just need some simple office or evening footwear they'll do the trick. Apply a different coloured shader for something fancier if you need it.

The Jeweled One Outfit for G3F

Okay, okay, this isn't incredibly useful… but damn, is it sexy. Doesn't leave much to the imagination, granted, but if you need a set of nice little nothings for your harem/slave girl to almost be wearing, this is the outfit for you.

I used one of the MakeHuman hairs on one of my G8F characters and I think it looks OK even for a character in the foreground.
