The Gyrescape (Kraftiunuum setting, cityscape)

Description

This is a very quick mock-up of a setting within the Kraftinuum. Below is a description of a lot of different aspects of the Gyrescape. It's also the home of "The WereHouse" underground nightclub and front for "The Dealer's" black market genetic mods.

Also known as the Big Gyro, this man-made island slowly rotates with the currents in the South Pacific Ocean. It is a massive trade hub and melting pot of cultures where anyone can apply to live. Most people on Earth at this time can be found in the many sovereign city-sprawls that dot the globe. Potential citizens submit an application, then if accepted they are paid a stipend, and matched to an occupation and a home.

At the Gyrescape, they favor those born as mutants ("chimaera" in polite society), especially since people with extraordinary abilities and appearances are now being born with alarming frequency (and treated with a mounting fear and hatred). The mutable structure of the island allows even those who are prone to outgrowing whole airplane hangars to live a normal life with housing and creature comforts that "grow" with them.

The whole thing suddenly appeared one day, having cleaned up a good portion of the garbage in the ocean in the process. The nations of the world were stunned to find a Polynesian man named Bob at the "helm", serving as a figurehead in charge of what seems to be a mostly automated (and autonomous) island metropolis. Bob lives in the cluster of skyscrapers at the island's hub, and is shockingly easy-going for the leader of such a wildly controversial place. It's quite common to see him lounging or napping in broad daylight, usually floating in one of the artificial bays at the rim.

Built and operated almost entirely by nano-technology, the city keeps track of it's own citizens, transit, and utilities. Farms, parks and beaches can shift and change as easily as the housing and infrastructure. Solar energy is the primary source of power, but citizens get credit added to their weekly stipends by exercising (and staying healthy) even if they don't use the free equipment that sends the power they generate back into the system. Mail moves through the ground, floors and walls at all hours, homing in on the recipient, but you can still find plenty of couriers (even some that can fly for one reason or another).

All of that aside, the WereHouse is located snugly in an otherwise unassuming port district near Shell Beach. It's because of the unique structure of the island that Hunter's secret underground nightclub (and front for selling his illegal genetic mods) can't be pinned down by authorities. It literally moves around amidst the other warehouses like a high-stakes shell game.
