I didn't find it quite believable that Vara would really be prepared to leave Liara over something as stupid as her running off to fight on her own, even after the explanation that you offered. Or that she would have hit her.
But I did like your thoughts on why only Matriarchs tend to have acolytes, that was brilliant.
