The idea for Hotaru’s violin playing invoking a phantom of young Chibi Usa came about when I was rereading the manga. Hotaru/Saturn’s main attribute is death/rebirth, so that makes me think she’s closely connected with the threads of Destiny. That connection means that while she is not able to directly discern the future like Mars or Neptune, some of that deep connection seeps through when she plays the violin and her music invokes visions of the past and the future. In this case, Chibi Usa also has a strong connection to Shou, and her desire to carry the message in her artwork, combined with the power in Hotaru’s music, created the phantom of the young Chibi Usa that Shou ends up seeing.

By the way, the "ghost moth" that Mercury is examining is a real animal. Hepialus humuli is it's scientific name and it's commonly found in Europe.
