Monthly Feature Challenge: H2O

Water is arguably my favorite 'element'. The first few years of my life were up in the California redwood rainforest and so I became totally inundated with it, only to move to the desert where rain takes several special dances and divine worship to occur. As a result when I see a slightly grey cloud I press my face up to the window to stare, snow is mythical, and the ocean is this strange place people like to walk near on romantic dates. Water is weird: it boils in a vacuum, distilled water is really bad at conducting electricity, and hot water freezes faster than cold. As it happens, April tends to be a rainy season in the Northern Hemisphere, and what better way to appreciate that than with some artwork?

Because H2O is such an expansive topic, what with having three of the five types of matter (liquid, gas, and solid forms), it was difficult for me to narrow down what exactly it is I'm trying to challenge you with this month. Basically, what I would like is artwork inspired by H2O whether that be in the form of sea glass washed on the shore, watercolor paint, sea life, the many names for ponds/lakes/puddles/wetlands/swamps/etc and rivers/streams/creeks/moats/etc [Actually, just look at this beautiful list: click], waterfalls, ice and its bergs, snowflake macrophotography, and so on, and so on...

Your challenge is:

• It must be submitted to DA after this journal to count!
