Dr. Laken Dufort

Personality: Laken is meticulous, dedicated, and a bit of a workaholic. He loves to get into the details of any obstacle he faces, unfortunately lending himself to tunnel vision at times. Coming off as quirky and awkward, he’s terrible at making small talk and prefers small groups over large ones. Since he gets socially flustered fairly easily, he’s pretty closed off to most strangers, but if you manage to get into his small group of friends, he will worry and fawn over you like no other. Don’t mistake his quirkiness for being flakey, though, as he is very confident in battle and cleans up his act quickly in the face of danger.

Bio: Laken was a late bloomer when it came to Pokemon battles, only ‘officially’ taking on the league when he joined up with another well-known trainer after being forced into ‘fieldwork’ by his academic advisors and mother. After successfully completing his PhD in Pokemon genetics, Laken took it upon himself to provide health and genetic research for the largely underrepresented Pokemorphs. Although he was in love with his work, he decided to reach out to some old friends which lead to a disaster he can admittedly barely remember but left him with a strange branching scar on his back.

In order to deal with the general stress of this disaster and fulfill his desire to travel again, Laken went to Alola with a friend and was able to somewhat move on.

In the years since then, Laken has published his introductory work and received critical acclaim within academe for branching the gap between Pokemon and human health care. He is continuing his research into the link between Pokemon and human genomes, and hopes to one day be able to write a university textbook (and maybe even face his fears and lecture) on the subject. This was abruptly interrupted when he heard from Jamie Zeke, who, being a good friend of his, requested his assistance at the Shrine of Life for the grand reopening. Being convinced that he needed to get out of the lab again, Laken obliged, and will be helping out Rina and Jamie behind the scenes.

Misc. Info:
Laken suffers from hyperthyroidism, which he takes antithyroid medication for daily. As a result, he is prone to overheating and is often hungry. This is also what gives him his teal-colored hair.
Due to a brush with death in childhood, Laken can see apparitions. The fear of seeing ghosts is what often kept him inside and made him fall in love with schoolwork in his youth.
Laken sometimes wears contacts which he’ll switch out for his glasses.
Laken was raised by his single mother, Valérie, who married young but ended up separated soon after. Laken knows who his dad is, but hasn’t tried to pursue him in any way.
Legendaries tend to make Laken very anxious (ironically).
After being smack in the middle of multiple emergencies (and simply having accident-prone friends), Laken has become pretty proficient at first aid application.

Personality: Raina is affectionate and friendly, invested in almost anything and anyone. Her genuine concern and protectiveness can come off as somewhat comedic when seemingly coming out of nowhere. In battle, she is tactful and deliberate, and doesn’t push extremes unless the situation is dire.

Personality: Ronron still has the heart of a Litleo. Hyperactive and a powerhouse in battle, sometimes he forgets how big he really is. It’s not uncommon to see him jumping up on people.

Personality: Mild and timid, Jovan is a caring ‘mon despite his large stature. Although he gets nervous easily, he’ll follow through with any command Laken gives him. In contrast to his nature, Jovan has a large amount of unchecked brute strength, which makes him a force to be reckoned with in battle.

Personality: Talon is a Clawitzer with a trigger finger (trigger claw?). He doesn’t need to find much of an excuse to attack anything that irks him, but Laken manages to keep him in check (if he’s watching).

Personality: Somewhat of a lurker, Malgier likes to observe those around him. He often hovers above the team like a bug-drone. In order to get a really up-close and personal view, he’ll sometimes even land on other trainers. Apologies in advance to anyone afraid of bug ‘mons
