First, I want to thank Zoubstance for doing the Hubertus hunt, which made me really want there to be another HARPG hunt in a similar spirit, so here it is.

This is a no-quarry hunt. There are no real animals being hunted; instead it is just an activity for horses, hounds, and humans.

You are only required to do one image, which should be of the actual hunt. All the other info is for any extra images or rp you would like to do.

Pre-registration is not mandatory, but would be very much appreciated. Just comment below with rider and horse names and references.

Deadline: October 20

Accommodations:
Participants staying overnight after or before the hunt can stay in one of the cottages or room with Henrik in his cabin (err.. man cave?), crash on a couch or pallet in the main house, or stay in their horse trailer if they brought one over on the ferry. Horses can stay in a stall in the cavern, in their trailer, or in one of the stalls or mini paddocks at the vet facility. The weather will be very pleasant this weekend, so riders can take horses swimming in the cove whenever they like.

Friday
all day: Arrival of some teams & settling in

Saturday
8:00-10:00 AM Arrival of remaining teams
11:00 AM: light lunch by the lighthouse: There will be tables with sandwiches, drinks, and cookies, as well as water for the horses, for everybody before the hunt starts.
11:45 AM: forming up
12:00 PM: hunt starts
6:00 PM: dinner at the main house

The Hunt:

There are obstacles of differing difficulties, so if your team isn’t up to an obstacle (or any of them), that’s okay, just go around. Aaron, Henrik, and Renee will be doing their best to be sure nobody gets hurt, but even if a rider falls, they’ll be okay BECAUSE THEY’RE WEARING THEIR HELMET.  Aaron will also have a first aid kit saddle bag.

Nobody should pass Renee, since she’s the master, and Aaron will stay in the very back to make sure everyone makes it safely.

The hunt starts off from our lunch spot by the light house, then follows beside the dirt road to cross the bridge onto the larger piece of the island. The group will cross the stream and ride through the woods for a little bit before coming out to re-join the road by the windmill. There’s a nice bank jump there.

After a little while on the open fields, the group will turn around and ride through the apple orchard. There may not be any apples there yet, but there are lots of pretty white flowers. The hunt officially ends when the whole group has re-crossed the bridge. There, everyone has a chance to be part of a little tradition.

In some traditional fox hunting, they practice something called “blooding” where new members of a hunt have the blood of the animal smeared on their face. WE DON’T DO THAT. Instead, the crescent club (which is a brand new, tiny hunt club currently based at SRI) is welcoming anyone who wants to join to participate in “mudding”. There’s no animal being hunted, but there’s some nice mud on the banks of the inlet the bridge crosses. Renee will smear a little mud on the cheeks of anyone who wants to become part of the crescent hunt club.

Then all of the horses and riders will take a big group photo. (This is the group image I will be doing of all participants.)

Horse Requirements:

  • Realistic/natural horses 5 years or older
  • Horse does not need training to participate, but should be fit enough for the hunt and must be comfortable crossing water
  • required tack: white saddle pad, black or brown bridle (hackamore is also acceptable) and saddle
  • horses who kick often should have a red bow on their tail to warn other riders
  • optional: young or inexperienced horses may wear a green bow on their tail to notify other riders that they may need a little more space or a couple of tries at a jump.

Rider Requirements

  • black helmet
    • not hats, not helmet-hair (although you’ll have that afterwards),  HELMETS: protect your noodle, people :D
      • (Renee is going all helmet-police, so just humor her even if a helmet is not your typical riding gear)
  • hunter green jacket (collar can be any color/design you like)
    • NOTE: only staff wear red jackets in this hunt. All other riders should have a dark green jacket. No top hats are worn in this hunt.
  • white or tan breeches
  • white shirt & stocking tie
  • black gloves

Dogs (optional)

  • You are welcome to bring dogs if they are reasonably behaved around horses.
  • There is no real quarry (fox or other animal) in this hunt, so they will not be following a scent trail, but are welcome to follow along with the riders.

Image Requirements

  • Image should be colored with a background (There are images below you help you know what the island looks like)
  • collabs are welcome and encouraged

The one REALLY REALLY important requirement: Feature someone else’s horse and rider (or several others if you’re up to it)

It’s an opportunity to draw something fun and share the love by doing art of each other’s characters, not a competition. Everyone receives a participation ribbon (because who doesn’t like ribbons?) AND gets featured in the group image.

Here are some images from google to give you an idea of what the hunt will look like:
