Miscellaneous information about the setting! If you have any other questions, feel free to comment below.

TECHNOLOGY

  • Technological advancements are loosely based on the year 1915. Steam power and electricity technology exist and have been traditionally powered with the help of feral Pokemon. After the disaster, anthro Pokemon are taking up jobs in power generation, but without the help of ferals there’s a bit less power to go around.
  • Most technology is focused on transportation, communication, quality of life upgrades, and entertainment. Weaponry is not very advanced or even common in most civilized areas.
  • Transportation varies between steam trains, steamboats, and hot air balloon. Cars are a new invention and not widespread, due to their cost and the lack of paved roads in most towns. Prior to the disaster, feral Pokemon were the common source of personal transportation and carriages were a common sight.
  • Communication and entertainment mostly centers around a large-scale radio system. Small portable radios have recently become popular for talking and entertainment on the go. As part of the effort to restore the region, guild members are all provided with these portable radios.
  • Not all areas of the region make use of the newest technology. All the settlements marked on the map have at least a radio tower to communicate with other major cities, but aside from that, usage varies. For example, you may see street lights and basic cars in Tincaster, but you probably won’t find anything that runs on electricity in Bramble Village.

RELIGION

  • Religion is pretty varied in the Igneous region. It is generally accepted that Arceus is the original creator and as such, the most widespread religion is Arceism. However, many choose to worship or pay tribute to a lesser, patron god. For example, a community that relies heavily on farming may choose Landorus as their patron god, and hold festivals in his honor to promote a good harvest. A community near the ocean may worship Lugia and may give prayers and offerings to them in hopes of avoiding typhoons.
  • Because no one had actually seen a Legendary Pokemon in centuries, many others considered their existence to be a myth. After the disaster and the appearance of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, faith has increased in the region. Arceism is rising once more as people believe that only Arceus is strong enough to bring peace to the gods now.
  • You’re welcome to make up your own traditions and cultures regarding religion. Even if two communities worship the same Legendary, they may believe different mythos and have different traditions.

FERALS

  • Prior to the disaster, domesticated feral Pokemon were an integral part of life in most parts of the Igneous region. People and ferals worked as partners in order to generate power, transport people, farm, etc. Working ferals were typically treated humanely.
  • Ferals were also commonly kept as pets and companions.
  • Not all ferals were friendly, however. Wild ones were capable of being as skittish or hostile as any animal, depending on species of course.
  • After the disaster, all ferals have become hostile. Nearly all working ferals, pets, and wild ferals have all retreated to dungeons. Ferals that are enclosed or otherwise cannot escape are still hostile- Essentially, you could still keep your pet Goldeen at home, but it’s going to attack you every time you approach until you release it.

FOOD/AGRICULTURE

  • Similar to the human world, Pokemon eat both meat and plants. Some ferals are selectively bred to be docile and kept as livestock; These are typically Pokemon that resemble real-world farm animals (Torchic, Miltank, Mareep, etc.). Hunting is also an accepted practice. Plant life is identical to the real world, with the addition of berries- small fruits with strong healing properties.
  • Because livestock ferals are typically much weaker and docile than others, most were unable to break out of their farms and escape to dungeons. As such, farming them is still possible, albeit a bit more difficult.

GOVERNMENT

  • Major cities function like independent little city-states.
  • Major cities are led by a governor. This position is determined by heritage and may be held by either gender.
  • Major cities each have a town hall, where the governor lives with their family as well as other government officials. After the disaster, these town halls were renovated to become guild buildings, and governors (or their successors) took up the responsibility of being Guildmasters.
  • Although governing positions are still largely determined by blood, the notion of royalty is uncommon in the Igneous region. Elected officials are similarly uncommon; Democracy has not gained popularity in the Igneous region, so high-ranking positions in communities are typically appointed by the leader.
    • That said, neither of these are strictly off limits for member-created cities. You can design your city’s government and traditions how you like.

  • Only major cities on the map have guilds. Port towns and member-created cities do not have guilds.

POLITICS

  • Relationships between the islands and their cities have been peaceful for centuries. Communities rely on each other heavily for trade.
  • Because there is no war, weapons are uncommon and cities do not have militaries. (They do generally still have law enforcement and a police force.)

CULTURE

  • Igneous is overall accepting of all genders and sexualities. Any locations of the group's canon (ie. towns named on the map) give full rights to LGBT+ citizens. However, homophobia and transphobia are not fully eradicated. Even in tolerant cities, some people may show bigotry, and member-created locations may have completely different laws/customs from the norm.

hi, I am planning to join this group but before I start working on my application is it okay for a character to believe in legends like Reshiram and Zekrom, preferably Reshiram? if not, thank you for taking your time to answer!
