He was the son of the great Jax and Fly, but Bugs was still learning the ropes. Painted Desert always had the theory to set their horses up for success rather than failure, and so with that, he had began training at an early age. It wasn't uncommon to throw an extra colt or two in the trailer when hauling to shows to get them experience on the road, but actually showing could be another thing entirely. Bugs had been handling the day well. Liberty went well enough and he got to explore the arena he was preparing to show in next for reining. His sire was well known for his reining capabilities, and Fly wasn't without skill either, so it was no surprise that as soon as someone sat on his back, he was trying to tuck his butt to stop and all the goods. He was bred to excel at this. Randy had spent months with the colt finishing final touches to his slide, spin, rollback, and lead changes. Bugs was always challenging as a youngster, looking for a job to do and pestering everyone until he found it. So the challenge of learning to perfect a maneuver sometimes frustrated the black colt, but it kept him out of trouble for the most part. As Randy loped the colt around the warm up, he could feel him loosen up and before really getting collected and soft. He was as ready as he'd ever be for his first performance. Randy pointed him to the arena and in they went. His stops might not have been the longest, his spins could have been faster, but he was out there trying his hardest on the skills they asked for.
