Personality

[Sarcastic] - [Cautious] - [Observant] - [Single minded] - [Kind] - [Proud] - [Compulsive]

Sarcastic
"...
"

Pretty sure Tate's second language is underlying sarcasm. Only nobles that (for whatever reason the world is about to explode) step into their library will not find themselves on the other end of a thinly veiled backhand compliment steeping in sarcastic undertones. Tate does his best to remain like he is unapproachable on the outside, because on the inside, he really just doesn't want to get close to others. Sarcasm is the best tactic for this, right?

Cautious
"So you say, but your actions give another meaning. How am I to trust what you say when what you do isn't the same?"

Due to the nature of his, and his brother's, "profession", Tate is cautious of revealing too much to any single horse. Every action that seems out of place is suspect to betrayal and questioning. It's a helpful trait to have in most cases, though in his every day life, it may not be the best to have. After all, what's the worst that can happen in a library?

Observant
"I saw that. Please place that book back on it's pedestal."

Tate has a decent pair of eyes on him, and a quick thinking brain to match. If there's something out of place in the room, Tate's normally the one who spots it, and will more than likely call it out if necessary. If there's something out of place in their library, be sure Tate's on the case! (hehehehe that sorta rhymes)

Single-minded
"Focus on the task at hoof. Nothing else should matter to you."

One problem Tate frequently runs into is his inability to see things outside of his view, or multitasking too much. Once Tate has an idea planted in his head that's the idea that stuck there, and moving it is a task only gods could achieve. Any ideas or things outside his views do not exist in his mind, or are flawed pieces of the world surrounding them..

Kind
"Here, you need to keep yourself fed in order to be able to protect yourself and others."

Tate has no qualms about handing out what he has in excess to help those who are worse off. After all, isn't that his entire purpose currently? Tate is a frequent visitor to some families who are worse off, giving food out to them every now and again.

Proud
"Everything I do, I put everything I have into it. I will accept nothing less from myself, nor should the others around me."

Tate has a statement about his pride. Everything he does should be something he would be proud to go before Kaia and Ignacio for. If it was something that he believes the gods would shame him for, then it's not worth doing, or worse, it's detrimental to his person.

Compulsive
"Don't touch that! I just put that back where it belonged after you came in and moved it."

There is one thing that you don't do around Tate, and that is messing with his organization. His personal corner of the library is filled with books organized in such a way that few people can understand, but he will know immediately if even one book has been slightly been taken off the shelf.

Background Information

Childhood ]

Jaccoby and Helios were owners of a decent sized library near the outskirts of the Commoner's district, a pair that were not madly in love, but loved each other enough. A pair that, honestly, only stayed together for their love of the books that they seemed to parent. So when Jaccoby announced her pregnancy, it was a surprise to all that surrounded them. It was even more of a surprise when, on the day of the birth, not one, but two foals appeared. Twin boys.

Such a blessing was unforeseen for the pair, and the two were inseparable from birth in every activity. The "eldest" of the two was named Mascade, and he seemed to be the larger of the two, while the younger was named Tate. What Mascade did, Tate did, and what Tate enjoyed, Mascade enjoyed. Every aspect and activity was enjoyed between the two of them, so much so that even their friends couldn't tell them apart.

Their only differentiating factor came, thankfully, early in their lives in the form of their horns. While Mascade's horn had a golden base, Tate's had a pearl like base. This was later "remedied" as they grew older, Mascade's horn growing a cap that was pearled, and Tate's becoming golden at the top.

Adolescence & Adulthood ]

As the two grew older, they seemed to diversity a small bit, Mascade being the larger was better at things that required more physical activity, and Tate was more into the quieter activities. Musical instruments was Tate's "secret" passion. He adored nothing more than to sit up in his and Mascade's room on top of the library, and just strum on his harp, or play his violin, as a way to relax and escape from the world.

Mascade and Tate finished their public schooling with eased flair. While not acing every subject given to them, neither of them were slacks when it came to their studies. Mascade and Tate rarely left the other's side, even when doing activities that the other wasn't immensely fond of, and their parents encouraged their connection. Over time the two of them decided to keep up with the family business, deciding that none of the other paths given to them seemed anymore suiting or entertaining than sorting, and discovering, through books. They soon learned that this wasn't the only job that their parents held.

One night, Tate had stayed up later than his brother, sorting though an obscure section of the library, when noises up in the front were heard. Thinking it was a misguided patron, believing that the library was open after hours, Tate quickly went out to find their new guest. As he reached the front of the building, he saw not a lost patron, but rather a small group of ragged horses and his parents gathered near the entrance. He hear his mother tell the strangers softly to remain quiet, as her children were asleep upstairs, as she held out a small blanket bundled with what seemed supplies. His father walked out of the library, glancing around the street, before returning with another equine.  After a few brief moments, the new equine took the small group of ragged horses, and left the library. As they left, one of the ragtag equine's shone slightly in the light, it's cut horn becoming glaringly obvious, as Tate's mind started spinning. That had been a slave that had visited their library to gain a book for their master. They had been here at least once a week. Tate slowly made his way back upstairs to his and Mascade's room, quickly awakening his twin to notify him of all that happened. It soon became apparent that if they wanted any answers, they would have to confront their parents about the late night excursion.

When morning arose, Tate and Mascade confronted their parents about the night prior, to which (after some time and round about questioning) they finally confessed that the group was slaves that they had helped escape that night. Tate was appalled, while Mascade was more questioning. Why had they done such a thing? They could be killed. Jaccoby asked that they remain quiet about it, and at least hear from their perspectives, to which they did.

The remainder of that year was spent with Jacooby and Helios taking the two around to the Dark District, to see how the slaves really lived, and telling stories about those who came from the outside, stolen from their families. And eventually the two agreed, they had to assist their parents, if they were going down, they were going down as a family.

The years since that faithful conversation and decision had been filled with many excursions for the small family. Any time a slave had contacted one of their contacts, one who truly wanted freedom from such a life would be sent to their library, to pick out a very specific book. They picked it out first, then requested from one of the librarians if this was the book they were looking for. A very carefully crafted question and answer statement that wasn't easy to stumble across. The card placed in the book would hold a very discreet messaged about where they could meet with more. Thrice a year, the small family decided, was the max that they could house and then smuggle slaves out of the city. Any more could easily raise suspicion, at least higher than was already raised.
