Simon, Leroy, Isa and Alex met early that morning in the kitchen of Golden Bough Stables. Isa had made a checklist, before they could get on the road. Today they were travelling to Vechnyy’s Colorado Stables, where they would stay for a couple of days to attend different clinics. After a nice and strong cup of coffee, they all went to work, making the last preparations before they could go. Last on the list was the loading of the horses. Michelangelo, Hill, Socks and Utopie were coming along. They were wrapped up nicely before they were loaded onto the trailer. Then they were all set to go, on to the airport. There the horses were transferred to boxes on the plain. It was a long journey, but the horses didn’t really mind. After a long day of travelling, everyone was very happy to arrive at Vechnyy. The horses were loaded of the trailer, and each rider took their own horse for a walk around the stables. Simon grabbed the lead of Michelangelo, and the horse followed him, curious to where they might be. They got to a small meadow, where they saw a gorgeous horse. He was almost white, but he had some grey markings over his body. He immediately came trotting over to the fence. ‘Hi fella’ Simon said to the grey stallion, who was extending his neck, trying to get to sniffing distance with Michelangelo. Michelangelo responded by stepping forward, also eager to meet the unknown horse. Normally Simon wouldn’t have let his horse approach an unknown horse, without another handler present. But this time it was different, because he knew this horse. This was unmistakenly DeMoole, and Simon knew how friendly and social this stallion was. So he allowed them to meet. Ofcourse there were some stampings and headthrows, but only a few. Soon they were scratching each others necks. ‘I see you guys have met Moole’ Simon heard a smiling voice say behind him. He turned around and saw a black haired woman standing there. ‘Yeah, I figured it was him. Is it okay that I let them meet?’ ‘Yeah, ofcourse, no problem!’ She said with a thick Russian accent. ‘I’m Mischa by the way. You’re here for the clinic?’ ‘Yup, I’m Simon, from Golden Bough Stables. This is Michelangelo.’ Simon said while stroking the stallion on his lead. ‘Oh, you’re doing dressage, right?’ ‘Yeah, we are’ ‘Great, I’ll be giving the dressage clinic!’ Mischa said with a broad smile. ‘Cool!’ Simon said. And after a small pause he added: ‘I’m a little nervous to be honest. Michelangelo and I are not very advanced yet, and I don’t want to slow everyone down.’ Mischa smiled and asked: ‘Then why did you come?’ Her bluntness threw Simon off for a bit. He turned red, and didn’t quite know what to say. Then he thought and said ‘because I hope I can learn from the others?’ with a little hesitation in his voice. ‘Exactly’ Mischa said. ‘A clinic is not about how good you are, but how good you can learn. And besides, we have excercises for each level. I’m sure you will be fine.’ Simon gave her a small smile, feeling a bit relieved, but also a bit silly. ‘I have to go and run some errands’ Mischa said. ‘I’ll see you later Simon, bye Michelangelo!’ ‘Yeah, see you later’ Simon said, before taking Michelangelo with him to finish his round.

The next day was D-day, Dressage day to be correct. Eventhough Simon felt relieved after meeting Mischa the day before, he still was nervous. This time it was because he hadn’t realised how many people were going to be watching. Everyone who would do another clinic then Dressage would be watching. But he pushed his nerves aside, deciding it was not worth it. After he tacked up Michelangelo he took him to the arena. He was joined by a red haired girl and a smart looking sooty seal bay stallion, a girl and a gorgeous flaxen liver chestnut stallion, and a girl with a sooty bucksking mare. The last one reminded him of Vesta, so he figured it might be a Zlesdin. Immediately Simon felt intimidated, but he reminded himself of what Mischa had said. Simon started warming-up Michelangelo, as they were instructed to do so. In the arena were also Mischa on a white horse, and a guy with loads of hair on a tobiano horse. When all horses and riders were warmed up, Mischa started the training with an introduction. fav.me/dbram4y After that they were supposed to choose a part of the Dressage Pyramid. Simon decided he would work on Suppleness. Sometimes that could be such a problem for the pair, and Simon didn’t always know how to help Michelangelo with it.

The trainings were very interesting. They had to do multiple kinds of lateral work. Such as travers on a circle, controlling the angle of a leg yield, leg-yield away from the leading leg in canter, and shoulder-in on a circle. Simon felt Michelangelo working underneath him, with every aid trying to figure out what it was that his rider asked of him. Sometimes they would get their communications crossed, but the next try would always be better. Mischa nodded in approval to him after an exceptionally good leg-yield. ‘Looks great Simon’ she said. Then she went over the microphone and said ‘Everyone, lets end up our exercises and meet me at the center. There she summarized what everyone had been doing, and every duo had a chance to show the others the result. Haley and Lesnik, which indeed was a Zlesdin Mare, went first. They also had been working on suppleness. Eventhough the mare was just broken-in, she had done such a wonderfull job. fav.me/dbrunep Then it was time for Simon and Michelangelo, and they did a near-perfect shoulder-in on a circle. The other two showed their result, and then clinic-time was over. After a good cooling-down, Simon took Michelangelo back to his box and untacked him. His colleagues joined him, telling him he did great, and how fantastic Michelangelo moved. Simon felt really proud, of both himself and his horse.
