Feather

Description

This drawing is based off of something that happened in real life - I was helping my mom sweep the back porch when I saw a white feather fly across the yard from seemingly nowhere, there were no birds nearby at the time. It was probably just some poplar pollen, but I liked the concept, so I drew it! :D

I like how the background turned out, I wanted it to be bright and blurry, almost dreamlike(?), so hopefully that came across well. I don't really like how the drawing of myself turned out though. I have difficulty shading things that're back lit and it didn't turn out at all how I had imagined. Plus it was really hard to tell what direction the light was coming from in the reference photos I took of my back yard.

hello from project comment with the tag word sunlight! (also i apologize, i didn't realize someone already commented on this but i feel like i offered a bit of a different perspective!)
First off, i really love the colors you used, they really capture the soft mood of the work! The whole piece has a really nice nostalgic feeling and has a calming effect. The lighting is also very well done. The piece is very bright and the shadows all seem to be well placed. The way the environment seems to glow is also very pleasant and really helps tie everything together. The background is also nicely detailed, even with the whimsical blur on it. I also like how fluffy the hair looks! I only really have two points of criticism, the first being the left arm looks like its being bent straight up in a way that wouldn’t fit the hold of the broom, however thats more of a nitpick. The other is the namesake of the picture “feather” seems to disappear against the white wall in the background, i think it could have been given a little more contrast to the backdrop or used perhaps as a prop maye floating up from the broom. Overall a really nice job!

now off to @w-h-i-s-p-a  with the tagline: serene!
