Rebekah

“I got it!” Rebekah called to the other Tribunes as she raced after their ball that bounced toward the entrance to the Tribune Gardens. ’Be careful!’ she heard her sister Atarah call out after her, but Rebekah wasn’t concerned. They played out here all the time and never had there been a problem.

She had been aiming to catch the ball in the grass far before it reached the street outside (they weren’t allowed out there after all), but Cyrus has smacked is harder than she realized at first. She was gaining on the red thing, though, her stubby kitten legs galloping along beneath her as she closed the gap between herself and the ball. But sooner than she expected the grass beneath her was replaced by stone and only a moment later her paws finally snatched up the little ball. Shouldn’t be a big deal, she was a mere cat-length from the entrance to the Tribune Gardens after all, she would be back within in a heartbeat! She held the ball down and went to look back at her siblings to call out that she was coming back, when suddenly a massive figure hundreds of times her size was boring down on her, huge hooves clashing and coming right at her! Rebekah froze in horror, her amber eyes wide as moons and her fur bristled. Her mind was blank and empty of everything but a sick shock as she looked upon death from a mere second away.

Mihail

Today was bustling. That was the only thing the jaguar could think of as he weaved through the crowds of people. Children chasing each other, shouting things that sounded like jibberish on Mihail's ears.  And the adults crowding the stands, all but throwing strange little coins they carried around at the merchant's faces.  It wasn't much trouble getting through the clusters of human though. Upon seeing the large jaguar advancing they felt pretty inclined to move out of the way and let the feline through.

Finally out of the city's bustling market place he continued to make his way down the side of the road in the direction of the docks where he was stationed today. Out of his peripheral vision he saw a blotch of red bounced from the entrance of the tribune gardens, a ball? And not far after it a tiny cub scrambling after it. Taking a small glance he saw something else that caught his eyes. A horse drawn caravan coming forward, seconds away from crushing the tiny cub. Sprinting forward in a burst of speed he didn't even know he could manage he lunged himself in front of the oncoming horses lifting the small cub by the scruff and lept onto the other side of the street. The makeshift ball now flattened into the ground from the horse's hooves.

Rebekah

Before the tiny cub even knew what happened she was flying through the air. But she hadn’t been hit! Had she? Rebekah’s amber eyes were wide as moons as the caravan rushed past so close her face was blasted with air as she was whisked away. She noticed then that someone had her firmly by the scruff, and looked up to see a huge and unknown cat. A Bounty Hunter!

Soon they slowed to a stop on the other side of the street. Rebekah was utterly speechless and trembling violently as the jaguar put her down, her amber eyes returning back to the street and fixing on the flattened red thing that had been their ball. And that easily could have been her. She looked up at the jaguar, but was otherwise in a frozen crouch against the stone ground with her tail locked tightly around herself. She opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn’t say a word, just gawking up at him.

Mihail

It has surely been a close one Mihail gazed at the ball that might has well be part of the road now, any second too late and so would she. Turning back to the trembling cub his turquoise the golden orbs staring up at him. From her state he assumed she was in shock from the ordeal. "You are alright?"

Rebekah

Rebekah forced her mouth closed and relaxed a little as the street went quiet, and luckily she was starting to catch her breath again. But her eyes were still glued on the jaguar’s face when his gaze shifted down to her, his eyes the color of gems. He asked if she was alright and she gave a small nod, finally looking away from him to look back at the street, and the entrance to the Tribune Gardens where her siblings were happy to see her safe and went back to another game. She was surprised, and glad, at how calm she felt right now...

But then it all hit her in an instant, and she struggled for maybe a second to stay strong before she was just completely and utterly overwhelmed. Suddenly she was crouched on the ground crying profusely, eyes shut and tears streaming down her cheeks as she was unable to hold back her sobs.

Mihail

Mihail was caught off guard by the sudden shift in mood from the cub. The jaguar stayed still for a moment not entirely sure of what he say or do, he was never the best with comforting words or even words in general. So instead of speaking he lied down beside her, his shoulder tentatively bumping against her own and his lower body against her back. He watched over her with softened eyes that occasionally flickered to the garden waiting to see if a worried parent would come rushing from the entrance in search of their offspring.

Rebekah

Deep in her world of confusion and fear and embarrassment, she didn’t expect the soft touch of the jaguar even if she probably should have. She flinched slightly at first, but ultimately turned toward the older cat’s embrace, burying her face in his golden spotted fur as she cried. “I’m… I’m sorry,” she mewled between sobs, “I’m sorry, I’ll never do it again, I didn’t… didn’t mean to.” Her voice was a pitiful plea muffled by the jaguar’s coat, speaking as if she was afraid he would yell at her.

Mihail

He felt a bit puzzled at her repeated apologies, she was unharmed and neither was he on anyone else. A close call but it was alright. For moment he pieced some words together he'd hope to calm her down.  Quietly his low voice said in a solemn but calming tone, "you are unharmed, everything is alright. You don't need to cry."

Rebekah

A soft, calm voice sounded in her ears, she heard it and felt it reverberating from the mass she was huddled against and then spoken to her from the mouth of the jaguar. ”Everything is alright…” She breathed deep, her cries slowly dying away as she realized she wasn’t getting yelled at, and maybe she almost died but she didn’t. She was still here… nothing had to change. “You don’t need to cry.” She looked up at him, her clear amber eyes red and still wet with tears. She stared into his eyes, her lips trembling but she took comfort from his stoic yet gentle gaze. Her mind was still a whirl but the cloud was starting to settle, and she was struggling to get a hold of herself again, and somewhat succeeding. She let out a shuddering sigh, leaning against Mihail’s golden spotted coat, still looking up at him. “Okay…” she whispered in reply. She still was somewhat dazed, but it was alright… nothing had happened. It didn’t even sound like she was in trouble. “You saved me… are you… a Bounty Hunter?” Rebekah was still very young, she barely knew any of the cats in the Hunter program besides her family and her family’s friends. She was already smitten with the valiant city guardians. Could this be one of Massilia’s heros who had swooped in to save her?

Mihail

As the cub calmed so did Mihail's nerves, he gave one more glance towards the gardens for any signs of a guardian to come collect her but when it seemed no one was coming he returned his attention to her golden eyes. It looked as if he'd be babysitting for a little while. Not that was anything new, he often was the one helping Estelle look after her foster children and his little sister. At her question his ears perked upwards."Yes." He answered quietly and then asked a question of his own,  "Your name is..?"

Rebekah

Rebekah's eyes widened as he admitted his identity, and she even smiled a bit. Her gaze was full of awe. "R-Rebekah," she whispered. She paused, looking very troubled as she debated whether or not she should ask the question in return. She really wanted to know who this was! But.... wouldn't he introduce himself if he wanted to? She didn't want to impose... but she had already sorta imposed by making him save her... so... "What is your name? If you don't mind me asking..." she added quickly at the end, so he knew that she knew that he didn't have to tell her anything. He shouldn't mind giving her his name, but... she was just a cub and he was a mighty Hunter! She didn't want to annoy him!

Mihail

For a moment she seemed to be contemplating something as he silently observed her facial expressions . Finally when it seemed her curiosity won over, he perked up his ears at an impending question or statement.

What is your name? If you don't mind me asking...

In response he gave a tiny nod approving her question, the jaguar was almost curious to why she hesitated to ask such a simple question, "Mihail," the hunter responded, revealing the name given to him by his mother.

Rebekah

Rebekah stared up at him as he said his name. “Mihail…” she echoed softly, committing the name to her memory. That wouldn’t be hard to do, though. This cat had already left a massive impression on her. After all, he had saved her life... He was a hero. It occurred to her suddenly that she hadn’t even thought to thank him! “Oh! Thank you!” she blurted in half a panic, as if the words couldn’t have waited another moment, as already they were far too late. But that wasn’t right… that wasn’t what Rebekah wanted to be. She wanted to be like a Bounty Hunter. Like Mihail. So calm and dignified. So mild and gentle but firm and brave enough to leap before a speeding horse to save a silly kitten’s life. She wanted to be like that too. “I mean…” she collected herself to repeat in a more calm way, “Thank you… for rescuing me.” she paused another moment. She should ask to be brought home. Surely this cat had lots of important things to do! She didn’t want to leave him yet, though. Maybe… a few more words. “I-I want to be a Bounty Hunter too.” she told him.

Mihail

When she spoke her thanks, Mihail gave her an appreciative nod in return. Not in a million years would he let a defenseless cub be tramples under the hooves of an oblivious equine without doing anything. The jaguar might have had a seemingly cold surface but he could never see the harm of cub, whether it be accidental or purposeful.

I-I want to be a Bounty Hunter too."

At those words he acknowledged her with an approving stare and hum. "Keep your head up, and you will one day."

Rebekah

”Keep your head up, and you will one day.” Rebekah looked up at him, seeing the approval in his strong gaze. Her own eyes were shining with respect and admiration. She smiled a moment and then nodded solemnly in return. He believes in me. That filled her with determination, even as she got to her paws and realized that she is trembling. She took a deep breath to steady herself. “I should go,” she said, turning toward the road, across which was the entrance to the Tribune Garden, and right in the middle of it the squashed remains of her ball. She shrank away in fear, looking both ways down the street but still too anxious to go despite the fact that it was clear. With flattened ears, she looked back at Mihail, as if for guidance or help or something.

Mihail

He gave a light nod rising to his full height his tail brushing against her shoulder in an offer to walk her across the street to the guardians.  Her parents or caretakers were more than likely waiting for her and with this experience he made an educated assumption she learned a lesson about running into the road. All be it probably not the best way but effective but he admired her determination he hoped it'd be a trait that wouldn't fade.

Rebekah

Rebekah’s eyes followed the jaguar as he got to his paws and stalked to her side, towering far above the young cub. She gulped, blinking gratefully before turning back to the road. She could see the Hunter’s golden pelt out of her peripheral vision, keeping her safe. She looked left, then looked right, and took a shaky breath, then narrowed her eyes in determination and stepped forward, never moving too quick so that Mihail was out of her peripheral vision.

Soon the road was behind them and she could see clearly into the Tribune Gardens where her siblings played. She saw the dark red fur of Avigail too; her mother was coming this way. Rebekah felt about to cry again, taking a few paces toward Avigail, but then she stopped to look at Mihail, the cat who had saved her life. She turned around and scampered back to him, nuzzling against his leg in a thankful embrace, purring a soft ’thank you’ when words failed her.

Mihail

From the distance Mihail could spot the swift blurs of the other tribunes which he could only assume where young Rebekah's siblings. Their small bodies pushing their little legs as far as they could possibly go, imitating attack moves, the bunch looked like they'd be promising hunters. His gaze shifted to the red pelt of a familiar clouded leopard, while they never met properly how could he have not known of the infamous Avigail, the bounty hunter silver's mate? His head dropped respectfully to the shorter feline as Rebekah made her way to her mother but was caught off guard when he saw a red blur shoot back at him and tensed when he felt weight against his leg.

But his muscles loosened when the thankful purrs reached his ears. Careful and tentative in response Mihail placed his paw on her back returning her embrace best he could with difference in height between them. This certainly wasn't what he had expected for starting off his morning, but he didn't mind.
Quick Summary: Rebekah makes a careless move while chasing a ball that nearly costs her her young life. Luckily Mihail came to her rescue just in time. Though quite traumatized Rebekah is okay, and could this be the start of a new friendship?

Thanks again for saving my little one, Mihail. Reba and I are forever grateful TvT In return for his efforts, Mihail just may have earned himself a little red shadow.
