So, one of my weaknesses is a tendency to plan my counterattack before I have much reason to believe I'm being attacked. (If I were more important this would be a strength.) I plan on writing things at some point, and given this post by MaRo already has a thousand notes on it despite being made today, I felt like indulging that tendency.

The question I'm pre-empting: why are most of the major characters female?

Well, the short answer is because it ended up that way, but that's also the dumb answer, and the non-dumb answer is actually to wonder why the question is being asked.

It can't be because of realism, because the series started with Greek Mythology going off the rails, and the rest of it is Superhero Reconstruction #9001. If you're looking for realism, you're in just about the wrongest of all possible places.

I have trouble buying that it's about having trouble empathizing with the characters, because having different genitals than you is probably the least of the divergences here; the only difference Mary-Kate would have if I switched their gender is that I'd be able to double down on the Dali reference inherent to the character (seriously, that moustache is a work of art on par with his actual paintings.)

If you're simply having trouble suspending disbelief despite the "major" characters being a rather small cross-section of an already pretty small demographic, then I'm going to tell you a true story about a trans-man I sort-of know from a place I go for socializing and SSB4WiiU (with the former being primary in theory and the latter being primary in practice, much to my chagrin). I can never actually remember their name, so let's call them Dick because that's a name men can have and a perfect description of the sort of person they later turned out to be.

Anyway, it actually took conscious effort to keep their gender in mind and use the "right" pronouns with Dick, between appearance, voice, and choice of main in Smash: female Corrin. Now, that last one seems like it ought to be the least important, but it really isn't, for one reason: it's the one of those three things that Dick could most easily change. Corrin comes in both genders with no gameplay differences, and it's actually rather common for people to use video games to be who they wish they were, so I asked Dick "why female Corrin specifically?" Their answer was, basically "because women with powers are sexy," and that stuck with me even after I stopped putting any kind of effort into social interaction with Dick (up to and including the effort to remember their name or pre-emptively correct pronouns; when I'm called out on this I explain the specifics of what they did and mention that I'm spending quite literally less than no effort on insulting them when I do this.)

I have no idea why this went there or why it matters, and it probably doesn't, but I felt like talking about stuff and I live on my own so this was my best option. Go ahead and comment, watchers that, with the exception of the mutual watches that I initiated, I really have no idea what I did to earn. Seriously, most of you were here before I did anything that would show up on your notifications, and this is only the second such thing I've ever done.
