Inktober Day 4 - Underwater

Description

I'll admit, finding the character to use for this piece was pretty hard- I don't think I have any characters that are inherently related to water, so I decided to use it for the setting and chose the character separately. I'm not sure what made me choose Aster, other than it having been a while since I drew her. This was interesting for me in that Aster's a very guarded person, so playing around with the idea of vulnerability and how that can be displayed is something I was very interested in doing. This meant looking at body language, facial expression, clothing, composition, and setting. I wanted to create an overall sense of calm and quiet, with more subtle elements of harshness to try and sell the idea of stepping away from something rougher into a moment of thoughtfulness.

I did play around with line thickness her, but more so I tested out ways to do more subtle shading with only a fine-liner, and I think I learned a few things that'll help in future pieces. I played around a lot with patterns here, too, using them to separate different objects or mediums and fill the space. The result of that is one of my favourite things about the piece, since I normally focus more on 'realistic' texture rather than stylised patterning. I fixed up the blurred lines again, and I also added a slight cool tint.

Not much else to say on this piece. This is the last of the already-completed inktober pieces I've got in store, everything else from here is just whatever I find the time to finish. Number five is partially started, and shouldn't take too long once I put the time in for it, but after that I don't know what'll be happening.
