The races are now closed for judging! Thank you to all our wonderful participants!

Who's ready for some races?

This show will run until June ~~15th~~ 18th, 2018.

Rules:

This will be an effort-based show.

Leasing another person's horse is allowed for this show.

Collaborations with other artists are encouraged!

A horse may be only entered into any class once, but may enter as many classes as it is eligible for.

More than one horse may be entered in a single picture, with the maximum being 3.

You may enter as many of your horses as you like.

Please make sure to reply to the correct comment; if you do not your comment will be hidden and not answered.

Pre-registration is required.

Referencing and tracing are allowed, but your sources must be credited! And always be sure to follow the stock provider's rules.

Both digital and traditional entries are welcome.

The host may enter their horses into the show.

Failure to get your entry in on time will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish).

Setting:
The racetracks are set up the hill from the stables. There is forest on three sides of the tracks, and the fourth side shows a view of the Appalachian Mountains. The turf track is to the inside of the dirt track. There are no grandstands, but spectators can stand along the rail. The rail is black with teal uprights.

And now, the classes!

Shetland Derby

2 Furlongs
This is a fun little race for kids and their ponies! Riders must be between 6 and 12 years old, and ponies must be at least 5 years old and no more than 13 hands high. Your pony does not have to be a Shetland in order to enter; all pony breeds are welcome provided they meet the height requirement.
Riders must wear a helmet and protective vest, and ponies must wear a well-fitting English saddle (an all-purpose English saddle is ideal), bridle, and protective boots. Riders will have their number pinned to the back of the vest, and coloured helmet covers and saddle pads will be used to differentiate between "jockeys". This race will be run on the dirt track.

Bareback Run

5 Furlongs
Another fun race, the Bareback Run is for riders ages 10 and up and all breeds of horses. Horses must be at least 3 years old.
Riders must wear a helmet and protective vest, and horses must wear a bridle -- but no saddle! A bareback pad is permitted, though. Riders will have their number pinned to the back of the vest. This race will be run on the dirt track.

Rising Star Maiden

7 Furlongs
This is a more serious race. It is hosted for 2-year-old Thoroughbreds who have not yet won a race*. Riders must be at least 18 years old.
Racing tack is to be worn for this race. We will not be using standardized saddle pads; use your own saddle pad. Registration number should be shown on the saddle pad (or the sleeve of the jockey, if the saddle pad is not visible). The horse's name should also be on the saddle pad.
This race will be run on the dirt track.
* The horse must not have won a race at the time of registration. If they are entered into a race and win after being registered for the Maiden, the owner may choose to keep them in the race or scratch them from the roster.

Rising Star Optional Claiming

7 Furlongs
The Rising Star Optional Claiming race is for Thoroughbreds aged at least 2 years. Riders must be at least 18 years old. You may give the option for someone to "claim" the horse before the race, in which case they will own it no matter how the horse places. Offering the horse for claim is optional, not required. If you are offering the horse for claim, please include the claim price in your entry.
Racing tack is to be worn for this race. We will not be using standardized saddle pads; use your own saddle pad. Registration number should be on the saddle pad (or the sleeve of the jockey, if the saddle pad is not visible). The horse's name should also be on the saddle pad.
This race will be run on the dirt track.

Rising Star Open Turf Mile

8 Furlongs (1 Mile)
This race is open to horses of all breeds age 3 and up. Riders must be at least 18 years old.
Racing tack is to be worn for this race. We will not be using standardized saddle pads; use your own saddle pad. Registration number should be on the saddle pad (or the sleeve of the jockey, if the saddle pad is not visible). The horse's name should also be on the saddle pad.
This race will be run on the turf track.

+5 for extra image (max. 2; extra images may be anything from your horse arriving at Rising Star to meeting the competitors to training at Rising Star's track before the show)
+1 for including sponsor banners (max. 5)
+5 for donating a prize
+5 for advertising via journal or poll (link in your entry)

Sponsors

Horses registered with this group who enter will receive 4 points instead of the usual 3 for entering this competition.

Ponies registered with this group will receive an extra +2 Pony Points for entering this competition.

Horses registered with this group will receive 3 points for entering this competition. They will receive 5 points for placing 1^st, 4.5 points for placing 2^nd, 3 points for placing 3^rd, 2.5 points for placing 4^th, and 0.5 points for placing 5^th or below.
