Canidale Points: 5 CP

Kibble Count: 10 KC

Family:  None

   Mate: None

   Offspring: None

Personality:

:bulletgreen:Friendly and Gentle //

The sweet and kind Vern is known for his gentle and giving personality. He is overwhelmingly sweet and understanding and does his best to be a good member of the Outriders and a decent friend. Because of his gentle nature, he wishes dearly to take upon a profession of an Herbalist and learn the knowledge of healing. Though he is a large dog, he is more of a gentle giant than a brute. He is constantly tip toeing around to not injure the wild life he now surrounds himself with. He is also a strong lover of nature and enjoys filling his days with attempting to water flowers and nurse dying saplings.

:bulletyellow:Loyal and Religious //

Because of how horrible his life was before the Outriders, Vern has devoted himself to their cause and their beliefs. Though he is easily swayed by people as he is very trusting of others,he is however loyal to his religion and the culture of his new pack. He has become a strong voice for their beliefs and ceremonies. Though Vern is an emotional canine that absorbs the feelings of others around him, and will cry at the death of any creature. If he didn’t feel so strongly about everything, perhaps would have made a decent Undertaker. Vern gets very offended when others refer to his beliefs as cultish and will snap at those he feel is disrespecting his leader or his Fellowship.

:bulletred:Frail and Low Self-esteem //

However this does not make Vern a strong character. Though he will defend his beliefs he often lets others push him around and take advantage of him. He has a frail and gentle soul that absorbs the hurt and feelings of others. He feels very passionately about everything and often will cry or mourn for those he does not even know. This trusting and emotional boy can be easily taken advantage of mentally and emotionally. He is willing to do anything for others even strangers. It makes him liked by many, but easy to abuse and mistreat.

Pre-Group History: WARNING Mentions of Abandonment, injury, and depression below!

Vern began life as an accident. His mother (Lily) and father (Rex) were pets who lived next door to one another. Unfortunately for both their owners both were not quite fixed yet and Vern’s mother got pregnant. Frustrated and unable to care for their dog, the owner dropped Lily off at a park far from home. Lily, now pregnant and abandoned lived as a stray for a time until she was found by the pound. She was taken there and given proper care and treatment but still she had no home. Lily gave birth to nearly a dozen pups but due to her hostile womb and first time litter most of the pups died in birth leaving her with only three pups. She cared for them as much as she could at a shelter before Vern and his older sister were adopted by a man. He brought the pups home for his children, but over the course of a few months they grew tired of the extensive care both the pups needed. They left the door open one day and Vern ran away. He was nearly a year old at the time and had grown into his juvenile body, but still he was unaware of how the world worked.

He traveled around the city, but was mostly ignored by people for being a dirty homeless stray. After leaving his pet life, he was unfamiliar with roads and cars. Quickly he was hit by a car and broke his hip. From then on the young dog was terrified of the motorized vehicles and avoided the streets as much as he could. He wasn’t sure how he survived but that was when things began to get hard for him. He was now injured for life and still no one helped him. He was chased away and shouted at when he scavenged for food. Starving, hurt and broken, the black and tan dog trudged out of town, past the Junkyard, and to the great forest away from the people and the cars. Vern’s instincts told him that he was going to die soon. He didn’t want to die in the town, he wanted to be surrounded by nature and flowers and grass. To be free. He just wanted to go out a little more dignified but before he could enter the forest he slipped and fell into the mud. Now dirty, wet and exhausted, Vern decided to just simply give up. What was the point after all?

But Vern was being watched. The forest was sacred and the bernese mountain dog wouldn’t have been able to enter, not without the Outrider’s allowing him. But the one that watched the black dog fall and lay still in the mud, a hint of guilt struck them. Perhaps this poor creature has been abused and injured by man and he had come seeking refuge from their ways. The spotted dog approached Vern, his sleek coat and tall stance made the larger dog feel very small under his gaze. He asked Vern why he lay in the mud. Vern explained that he was waiting to die as he was starving and hurt unable to hunt or survive on his own. The sleek dog explained that his name was Reverto, and he believed that nature and life should be preserved. It was the Outrider’s job to do so. Vern perked up a little but shook his head, he mud dripping from his fuzzy ears. “I would be of no use to you or your cause… my hip is broken, I can’t run, and I can’t walk right. I would only hinder you.” Despite his depressing words, Reverto was not convinced. He explained that there was more to life than hunting and fighting. People are the ones that had caused his pain, and that there was still time. “You can follow me if you wish or you can stay. Know that there is a choice.” Vern watched Reverto leave towards the forest. Something was shaken inside of the disabled canine. This stranger had given him a choice at a new life. Something Vern had only hoped would jump out at him before now. Vern struggled but he lifted himself from the mud and limped into the forest. He was introduced to the Fellowship’s ways and was healed by one of the Herbalist and helped nursed back to a somewhat healthy state. But still he could not enter the Sanctuary. “Please Reverto, I want to return the grace you and your cause have shared with me. Let me join you and your Fellowship.” And with that, Reverto asked the large Vern to give up his life as a unwanted stray and agree to the life of the Fellowship  that protected the forest and wilds beyond the cities and man. Without hesitation, Vern agreed to all the terms, wanting nothing more of his former existence. Vern was so inspired by the pack’s ways he decided to devote his life to Reverto and the well being of the Fellowship. The black dog had a strong admiration for flora and fauna and often is found smelling of fresh flowers having strong interest in becoming a Herbalist so he too can help others that had experienced what he had.
