Build: River is a stick. She has crazy long legs and is skinny from her breed and malnutrition, and you can often see her ribs. Her fur would be smooth and silky, and probably longer, if she was in full health, but there are missing patches and the long parts are corse and tangled.

Nervous
River has never had a stable life. She was not socialized well as a puppy, and constantly lost friends and family throughout her life. Because of this, she has grown to be a very nervous, over-cautious dog. She doesn't trust easily, and is completely fearful of the unknown(including humans, which she has never seen). This isn't to say she is a coward, River is confidante of her survival skills and will take on new challenges if needed.

Superstitious
Something interesting about River is she is very superstitious, something that her adoptive mother, Saga never taught her to be. It might have been a trait passed down from her parents, but no one can know for sure. River has her little routines she must always do to make sure nothing goes wrong, in fear of unbalancing some supernatural energy. 

Soft-Spoken
In line with her nervousness, River is very soft spoken. After living her whole life alone or only with one other dog, she has never really had to speak up. So, unless no one else is talking, its very hard to carry a conversation with her.

Skillful
River is skillful with a lot of task, just because of her life as a wild dog and her training from Saga. She can hunt small prey, scavenger, help heal small wounds, and is aware of the forest around her. Of course, she is in no means a master at these things, but she is pretty well rounded when it comes to skills in survival.

Nurturing
Perhaps most influenced by her time with Saga, River has learned to be as nurturing as her adoptive mother. While she might hesitate starting a conversation or entering a suspicious part of the woods, her willingness to nurture and care for others often over powers theses anxieties.

Pre-Group History: 

      River never new her birth parents, at least, she doesn't remember them. When she was only 7 weeks old River was found by a river left alone next to the body of her lifeless brother. Who found her was a large, white, fluffy newfoundland mix named Saga who had been traveling down the river bank. Saga sat with the two pups until she was sure the boy was dead and the parents would not return, and then took the small brindle girl with her in her mouth. Saga raised River as her own pup, teaching her how to survive in the wild. River knew Saga wasn't her real mother, as Saga was sure to tell her the story of how she was found over and over again, be their bond was nothing short of a mother and pup. As River grew, she became longer and leaner, and her big adoptive mom grew worried for her health in the winter months, so the two moved further down the river away from the cold mountain peaks. 

   It was here that River met two pets, Wisteria and Salem, who she became quiet close with. She had never met humans before, but she learned their scent from her time with the two dogs. Her relationship with them was cut short when one day, just like that, they stopped showing up. Saga tried to convince her it was not by choice that the two were absent, but River always carried a suspicion that she had done something wrong.

   Not long after, the Saga and River moved farther down the mountain and River's memories of her childhood friends faded. It was somewhere during this time that River was attacked by a fox, leaving the scar on her back leg. Saga taught River how to treat her wounds, and thus began River's interest in healing and herbalism. Saga always went out in the early morning to scavenge, and returned to River as she was waking up, but one day Saga left into the forest never returned. By this time, River was much over a year old, and she could survive on her own. She mourned the loss of her surrogate mother, but continued their trip down the mountain.

   After many months of living on her own, and discovering the new forest she called home, River discovered a amazing group of dogs living together in a community that called themselves the 'Outriders.' She was immediately drawn to their way of life, and was eager to be apart of something larger than herself for the first time in her life, and so, she joined them.
