Closed for judging; thank you to everyone who entered! Results should be up by tomorrow afternoon
Hey guys! With Pride Month fast approaching, I've been thinking about this kind of thing a lot. As someone who is still learning to accept and love his identity after years of being told I was wrong and "broken", I feel like a horse show is a good way to show some pride. So, Rising Star is going to be hosting a pride show this year -- and if all goes well, we'll be hosting it every year for the foreseeable future!
This show will run until July14th 31st, 2018.
This will be an effort-based show.
You may enter as many horses as you would like.
Each horse may only be entered once per class.
If multiple horses are drawn in an entry, only one will be judged - please specify in the artist's description which one you would like judged.
Referencing and tracing are allowed as long as resources are properly credited. Not crediting resources will result in disqualification.
Pre-registration is not required.
Both digital and traditional entries are welcome.
Your entry must be drawn by you specifically for this event -- premade linearts and bases are prohibited.
For Show Jumping and Cross Country, feel free to design your own jumps!
Collaborations and interactions with other artists are permitted and encouraged!
Providing a piece of music to accompany your piece is encouraged!
The host stable may enter, but is not eligible for Grand Champion or Reserve Champion.
Make sure your entry is fitting for the level and size of your horse and rider! It's unrealistic for a 12-year-old riding a 4-year-old horse to be doing Grand Prix level dressage, or for a 13 hand pony to be jumping two meter fences. Just be reasonable
To qualify for Grand or Reserve Champion, your horse must participate in Dressage, Show Jumping, and Cross-Country, in addition to either Halter or Liberty. Grand Champion will be awarded to the horse with the highest total from the four classes, and Reserve Champion will be awarded to the horse with the second-highest total.
Because the Halter and Liberty classes were separated after I actually started the show, points will not be deducted for the time of day shown in your entry provided it fits the late afternoon/evening criteria.
Classes:
Halter
Liberty
Show Jumping
Dressage
Cross-Country
Setting:
Halter: The Halter class will take place in Rising Star's indoor arena. The footing is light tan/off-white sand, and the walls are oak panels. There are windows along one long side and one short side of the arena, a mirror and door on the other short side, and spectator seating along the other long side.
Handlers must be at least 6 years of age; handlers ages 6-8 should have an adult with them. There is no age limit for horses, but unweaned foals must be shown with their dams.
Disqualification will result from injury to horse or handler. You may draw one of these situations in your entry, but will not be eligible to place in the class.
The halter/liberty class will take place in the evening, from 7:00-8:00. The sun is beginning to set, casting beautiful reds and pinks through the arena, and it is fully dark out by 8:00. There are some clouds in the sky outside, but it is relatively clear. Pride flags for various identities and orientations are hanging around the arena, and handlers are encouraged to incorporate the theme into their clothing and tack.
Liberty: The Liberty class will take place in Rising Star's indoor arena.
The halter/liberty class will take place in the evening, from 8:00-9:00. The sun has set, and stars glimmer in the twilight sky. There are some clouds in the sky outside, but it is relatively clear. Pride flags for various identities and orientations are hanging around the arena, and handlers are encouraged to incorporate the theme into their clothing and tack.
Show Jumping: The Show Jumping class will take place in Rising Star's outdoor arena. The footing is black sand, and there is a black three-rail fence surrounding the arena.
Riders must be at least 8 years of age. Horses should be at least 4 years old.
Disqualification will result from a fall of the horse or rider, injury to horse or rider, or two refusals. You may draw one of these situations in your entry, but will not be eligible to place in the class.
The show jumping class will take place in the morning, from 7:00 to 10:30. There is still mist swirling around the grounds of the stables, but it should clear up by 10:00. The sky is clear, and there is a light breeze. The jumps will rise in height and difficulty as time goes on; the amateur jumpers will start off first and the top-level jumpers will be showing last. Pride flags for various identities and orientations are hanging around the arena, and riders are encouraged to incorporate the theme into their clothing and tack.
Dressage: The Dressage class will take place in Rising Star's outdoor arena. The footing is black sand, and there is a black three-rail fence surrounding the arena.
Riders must be at least 8 years of age. Horses should be at least 4 years old.
Disqualification will result from a fall of the horse or rider or injury to horse or rider. You may draw one of these situations in your entry, but will not be eligible to place in the class.
The dressage class will take place in the late morning and early afternoon, from 11:00-2:30. The sun is high in the sky, but some clouds are beginning to congregate on the horizon. The tests will become more difficult as time goes on; the amateur riders and horses will start off first and the top-level teams will be showing last. Pride flags for various identities and orientations are hanging around the arena, and riders are encouraged to incorporate the theme into their clothing and tack.
Cross-Country: The Cross-Country class will take place on Rising Star's cross-country course. The course winds through the woods and across some fields, and up and down a rather large hill. The forest consists of both conifers and deciduous trees.
Riders must be at least 8 years of age. Horses should be at least 4 years old.
Disqualification will result from a fall of the horse or rider, injury to horse or rider, or two refusals. You may draw one of these situations in your entry, but will not be eligible to place in the class.
The cross-country class will take place in the afternoon, from 3:00-6:30. It has gotten quite cloudy by the time the first competitors start their run, but the breeze is steady and the clouds have more or less cleared away by the time the last competitor starts the course. Different jumps are designated for different experience levels; the amateur teams will start off first and the top-level teams will be showing last. Pride flags for various identities and orientations are hanging along the trail, and riders are encouraged to incorporate the theme into their clothing and tack.
In order to help you visualize what you'll be able to see from the venue of each class, a map of Rising Star Farm can be found here.
