Welcome to Flash Fiction Month, day 28.
You've made it this far. Your feet are weary. Your fingers bandaged and calloused. You wake up screaming most days, your skin slick with the cold sweats. Or maybe it's not like that at all. We'd like to say that with only three days left we approach you with a cool washcloth for your clammy forehead and a hot cup of tea for your soul, but you know just as well that it is DESTINY that calls your name and demands sacrifice. TODAY, WORD-WARRIORS, YOU SHALL COMPLETE YOUR FINAL NASTY-ASS CHALLENGE AND DECLARE YOURSELVES VICTORS.
Instructions
Flash Fiction Month is about writing – and posting – a story between 55-1000 words in length every day during July. Each day we'll upload a deviation where you can post your story for the day, with optional prompts, themes, and the occasional challenge.
Once a week or thereabouts, we’ll be giving you a fiendishly difficult and unpleasant challenge; a task so evil, so heart-stoppingly awful that you’ll wonder how we can sleep at night. Today is one such day.
Paste a link to your flash fiction piece for July 28 in the comments below. If for some inexplicable reason you decide to complete today's NA Challenge, let us know by declaring “Nasty Ass Challenge” in your comment as well.
If you write a story every day this month, and complete every challenge, the muses whisper from the bottom of the sea tales of your greatest feats, your longest journeys, and the bright shining reward of glory all contained in a single household object. Behold!
NASTY ASS CHALLENGE: YOUR MYTHOS MAY VARY
Fear not, word-warriors, for we believe in your strength and may the font of your creativity never run dry. Today's challenge demands not just creation of a story, but a creation of a religion or theology.
CREATE A RELIGION - This challenge requires you to create an entirely new religion or mythology to be referenced in the story. The mythos may be implied, or it may be delved into as deeply as you want, so long as it is clear that it is a theme.
MORAL QUANDARY - There must be a scene depicting a moral quandary of some sort that can be resolved, or not, by the end of the fic.
LANGUAGE BARRIER - What's that you say? Within your fic there must be a foreign language present in some way that the protagonist cannot understand. This language can be real or made up, it's up to you, you brilliant soul, so long as it is clear that it cannot be understood by your hero.
CRISIS OF FAITH - FINALLY, please incorporate a crisis of faith; it should be clear that someone (or someones) are clearly and seriously questioning deeply held beliefs and commitments.

OPTIONAL WORD COUNT
This is entirely optional and not considered part of the Nasty Ass Challenge to qualify; HOWEVER, for an additional challenge, your word count must total to EITHER 555, 666 or 777 words.
If you completed the challenge, remember to put Nasty Ass Challenge in the comments below, because you earned it.
